Structural Fitter

Job Description Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Senior Fitter at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. If you’re an experienced fitter who can read blueprints, fit structural steel, and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, we’d like to hear from you. As a Senior Structural Fitter, you will be required to perform the following tasks: Job Requirements Essential Responsibilities Read and interpret structural drawings and blueprints. Fit, layout, and assemble structural steel components including channels, I-beams, and plate. Cut, grind, and prepare steel using torches, band saws, porta bands, grinders, and other fabrication tools. Install and fit ¼” plate and other structural components to specifications. Safely operate forklifts, jib cranes, man lifts, and other material handling equipment. Perform accurate measurements and ensure work meets quality standards. Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all company safety procedures. Participate in weekly safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives. Minimum Qualifications 3+ years of structural fitting experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings. Experience using layout and measuring tools with precision. Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Successful completion of Powell’s structural fitting and blueprint assessment. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen. Physical Requirements Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in an industrial manufacturing environment throughout the shift. Ability to work overtime as business needs require.
