Laboratory - Phlebotomist

PhlebotomistPerforms phlebotomy duties and collects blood specimens for laboratory tests using age-appropriate techniques. Handles and transports laboratory specimens and provides post-phlebotomy care to patients. Experience with various blood collection techniques, including finger stick and heel stick. Understands and follows the CLSI recommended order of blood draws. Prioritizes patient collections based on order request (stat, timed, routine). Processes specimens for the laboratory by centrifuging, aliquoting, and proper storage. Instructs patients on proper collection and preservation for laboratory specimens. Maintains quality assurance and controls while adhering to standard precautions. Patient age groups include neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Daily census is approximately 120 patients. Collaboration with interdisciplinary support is expected. Familiarity with microbiological specimens and various laboratory requisitions is advantageous.
