Scientist 2, Translational Genomics and Proteomics Center

Scientist 2 – Translational Genomics & Proteomics Position in the Ye Laboratory. The successful candidate will develop and execute experimental approaches to understand immune cell biology and disease mechanisms through molecular biology, immune cell engineering, and single-cell genomics technologies. Key Responsibilities Perform and troubleshoot molecular biology, cell biology, immune cell engineering, and single-cell genomics experiments with minimal supervision. Conduct molecular assays including DNA/RNA extraction, reverse transcription, PCR, qPCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, and gel electrophoresis. Culture, maintain, activate, differentiate, and manipulate primary human immune cells and mammalian cell lines for mechanistic and translational studies. Develop and optimize single-cell sequencing workflows: sample preparation, cell handling, library preparation, assay QC, and implementation. Perform genome editing studies, including CRISPR-based perturbation, delivery, selection, and downstream functional characterization. Analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical challenges, and propose next steps in collaboration with project teams and leadership. Maintain accurate experimental records, sample tracking, and data organization. Present results at laboratory and project team meetings and support collaborative research efforts. Stay current with emerging technologies and scientific advances relevant to the research areas. Required Qualifications Preferred 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3 years with a Master's degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genomics, Bioengineering, or a related discipline. Hands‑on experience with nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, PCR, qPCR, cloning, plasmid preparation, and assay troubleshooting. Experience with primary cell and mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, immune phenotyping, and cell-based functional assays. Experience with genome editing technologies, including CRISPR-based approaches and viral or non-viral delivery methods. Familiarity with single-cell sequencing workflows, including sample preparation, library construction, QC, and workflow optimization. Ability to independently execute protocols, troubleshoot routine to moderately complex challenges, and generate reliable, high-quality data with minimal supervision. Strong organizational, communication, and data-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams. Salary & Benefits Salary range for South San Francisco, CA: $83,790 to $155,610. Actual pay will be determined by experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
