Equipment Engineer - Automated Manufacturing

Binghamton, NY | $90,000 to $115,000 per year | Full-time

An established advanced components manufacturer in the Binghamton, New York area is hiring an Equipment Engineer. This is a hands-on role focused on equipment reliability, troubleshooting, and optimization across a mix of new automated equipment and legacy machinery. The goal is to reduce downtime and maximize production uptime, working with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and outside equipment vendors.

Full-time, on-site in the Binghamton, NY area.

Compensation

$90,000 to $115,000 per year, based on experience.

What You'll Do

You will troubleshoot, commission, and optimize new automated equipment and existing legacy machinery to maximize uptime and production performance. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, controls, and process issues across PLC and HMI systems, machine vision, robotics, motion systems, pneumatics, welding, fastening, sensors, tooling, and fixtures.

You will use PLC and HMI systems mainly to troubleshoot and isolate problems, and coordinate with equipment suppliers when programming changes or additional support are needed. Advanced PLC programming is not a core part of the role.

You will lead equipment and automation projects from vendor coordination and installation through validation and production ramp-up. You will also drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement on existing equipment. You will work closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams on the floor, and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or mechatronics engineering, or an associate degree (AAS) with strong electromechanical or automation experience
• 3+ years of hands-on automation, equipment, or manufacturing engineering experience supporting production
• Strong mechanical and electromechanical troubleshooting skills
• Working knowledge of PLC and HMI systems and industrial controls for troubleshooting
• Experience with automated equipment, such as machine vision, robotics, motion systems, pneumatics, sensors, tooling and fixtures, welding, fastening, or automated inspection
• Experience leading equipment projects and coordinating with equipment vendors
• Root cause analysis experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC experience
• Experience commissioning and validating new production equipment
• Experience with Cognex, Keyence, or other machine vision systems
• Experience with FANUC, ABB, or other industrial robots
• Lean, Six Sigma, or TPM experience
• Experience supporting legacy equipment retrofits or upgrades
