Materials Testing Technician

We’re recruiting for a contract Materials Testing Technician in Schaumburg, IL. This on-site role supports hands-on mechanical testing of materials under low, room-temperature, and high-temperature conditions.

This is a good fit for someone with direct material testing experience who is comfortable preparing samples, setting up equipment, running tests, and documenting accurate results.

Responsibilities

• Prepare test samples, including machined, molded, cut, dog bone, and coupon-style specimens
• Set up testing equipment with the correct grips, fixtures, extensometers, and strain gauges
• Perform tensile, yield strength, compression, and 3-point bend testing
• Use temperature chambers to condition samples before testing
• Monitor load, extension, deflection, and material failure points
• Collect and review test data using MTGenius or similar testing software
• Confirm equipment calibration and proper instrument function before testing
• Follow ASTM, ISO, internal procedures, and safety requirements
• Maintain accurate test records and communicate results clearly

Qualifications

• Material testing experience is required
• Hands-on experience with tensile, yield strength, bending, and compression testing
• Ability to follow detailed testing specifications, procedures, and work instructions
• Familiarity with testing fixtures, extensometers, strain gauges, and data software
• Comfortable working with low-temperature and high-temperature test conditions
• Strong attention to detail, safety, and documentation accuracy
• Ability to work on-site in Schaumburg, IL for the contract assignment
