Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA/APP) Plastic Surgery Advanced Wound Care Specialist Annual base salary: $82,700.80, with additional compensation based on qualifications, experience, and education. The University of Virginia Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider, either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), with a strong background in advanced wound care to join our Wound Care team within the Department of Plastic Surgery. This full‑time role focuses on the management of patients with chronic, non‑healing wounds in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. The APP will collaborate with our Wound Ostomy Care (WOC) team and other wound care specialists to care for adult and pediatric patients with a wide range of complex wounds, including chronic wounds, pressure injuries, neuropathic ulcers, burns, skin tears, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds, osteoradionecrosis, and osteomyelitis. The successful applicant will bring clinical expertise, autonomy, and a passion for delivering high‑quality wound care in an inpatient and outpatient setting, coordinating multidisciplinary care with colleagues in orthopedics, digestive health, podiatry, plastic surgery, and other specialties as needed. Key responsibilities include: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized, evidence‑based treatment plans. Perform wound care procedures such as dressing changes, sharp debridement, compression therapy, negative‑pressure wound therapy, bioengineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, offloading techniques, and other advanced interventions. Document histories, examinations, diagnostic orders, treatment plans, medication prescriptions, and maintain thorough, timely documentation in the EPIC EHR. Educate patients, caregivers, and families regarding wound management, prevention, and lifestyle modifications. Collaborate with home‑health agencies, primary care providers, specialists, and therapists to ensure continuity of care. Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives related to wound‑care services. Maintain knowledge of advances in wound‑care therapies, devices, and protocols. Teach medical students and residents as appropriate. Preferred qualifications include: 1–2 years of experience in wound care, primary care, or surgical specialty; new graduates with related experience considered. Strong understanding of healthcare systems, leadership abilities, and experience with quality‑improvement efforts. Additional Information Anticipated working hours: Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (potential future adjustments). No call. Qualifications Required Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program. Current national certification and eligibility for Virginia licensure. BLS certification. Preferred Wound‑care certification (WCC, CWON, CWS, or equivalent). Pursue educational opportunities (CME, conferences, seminars). Serve on department, division, institution, and community committees. Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews and grand rounds. Minimum Requirements Master’s Degree as an Advanced Practice Provider, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. 1–2 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA). Licensed or license‑eligible as a PA or NP in Virginia; must meet all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Medical Center and the Virginia boards. Must participate in Medicaid and Medicare billing. Current BLS; PALS/NRP, ACLS as required. Physical demands: standing prolonged periods, traveling, bending, stooping; ability to lift 20–50 lbs.
