Transportation Operations Technician I

Overview The Agency of Transportation is hiring a Transportation Operations Technician I. This entry‑level position involves highway maintenance tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees or brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In winter months the role also includes assistance with plowing and salting. Overtime may be required. Transportation Operations Technician I: 54737 Transportation Operations Technician II: 54770 Environmental Factors Duties are performed outdoors under extreme weather conditions and may require working outside of normal hours. Workers may be exposed to heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and pathogens. Random drug and alcohol testing is required. Overtime work, particularly in winter, is a common condition of employment. Minimum Qualifications No education or experience required. Applicant must be at least 18 years old. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Special Requirements A valid driver’s license is required. Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required to complete the initial probation period. Must complete all VTTC required coursework within six months or be enrolled.
