CNC Machinist - Second Shift

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team on the second shift. The CNC Machinist will set up, program, operate, and maintain CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components to engineering specifications. This role emphasizes quality, efficiency, and safe operation while collaborating with operators, engineers, and quality personnel to meet production targets and continuous improvement goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes to manufacture parts to print and tolerances.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements.
• Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters for optimal performance.
• Perform first-piece inspections, in-process checks, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
• Make minor programming edits and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code) to correct issues and improve cycle times.
• Monitor machine operations and part quality, identify defects, and take corrective actions to maintain production standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines, report mechanical issues, and coordinate repairs with maintenance staff.
• Maintain accurate production records, time logs, and inspection documentation in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Communicate effectively with second-shift team members, supervisors, and quality/engineering to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or apprenticeship in machining preferred.
• 2+ years of experience operating CNC mills and lathes in a production environment.
• Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric tolerancing (GD&T) basics.
• Hands-on experience with CNC programming (G-code) and common controllers such as Fanuc or Haas preferred.
• Proficient with precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail to produce parts within tight tolerances.
• Ability to work second shift hours (typical schedule: 2:00 PM10:00 PM or 3:00 PM11:00 PM) and occasionally flexible overtime.
• Knowledge of setup procedures, tool selection, feeds and speeds, and cutting tool life management.
• Commitment to safety, quality standards, and teamwork; excellent communication skills.
• CNC certification (e.g., NIMS) or other relevant credentials and forklift certification are a plus.
