Hands-On Production Manager – Custom Manufacturing & Fabrication

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting for a highly unique specialty manufacturing and fabrication company in the Dallas area that combines ongoing production for major commercial customers with custom, one-off and project-based manufacturing work .

This is not a traditional high-volume manufacturing environment, and this is not a desk-only Production Manager position.

The company works across multiple materials, processes and types of projects. Some customers require consistent production and delivery week after week. Other projects require the team to determine the best way to manufacture something completely new.

We are looking for a hands-on production leader who can bring structure, accountability and organization to the operation without losing the flexibility and creativity that makes this company successful.

What You'll Do

• Lead and coordinate daily production activities, projects, people and priorities
• Keep recurring customer production on schedule and ensure commitments are met
• Coordinate custom, short-run and one-off projects alongside regular production
• Align manpower, materials, equipment and workflow with daily production needs
• Identify production bottlenecks and take action to keep work moving
• Maintain strong standards for quality, accuracy and on-time completion
• Work directly on the production floor and jump in wherever needed
• Help determine the best way to execute new or unusual manufacturing projects
• Communicate priorities and expectations clearly to the production team
• Hold employees accountable while remaining actively involved in the work
• Troubleshoot equipment, process and workflow issues
• Improve organization, efficiency, production flow and repeatability
• Take ownership of problems instead of waiting for someone else to solve them
• Help create systems and processes as the company continues to grow

What We're Looking For

The right person will likely have experience in manufacturing, fabrication, custom production, woodworking, architectural products, plastics, printing, signage, millwork or another hands-on production environment .

More importantly, we are looking for someone who knows how to think.

Ideal qualifications include:

• Previous production leadership, manufacturing leadership or comparable hands-on operational experience
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Comfortable working around manufacturing and fabrication equipment
• Ability to manage both repetitive production and constantly changing project work
• Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to organize multiple priorities without losing sight of deadlines
• Strong sense of urgency and follow-through
• Willingness to work hands-on rather than manage exclusively from an office
• Ability to make sound decisions with incomplete information
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• High attention to quality and detail
• Humble enough to admit when you do not know something and resourceful enough to find the answer
• Strong ownership mentality
• Stable employment history
• Desire to find a company where you can stay, contribute and grow

Experience That Could Be Especially Valuable

Experience in any of the following could be helpful, although the company is open to candidates from different manufacturing backgrounds:

• Custom fabrication
• Architectural or commercial products
• PET or plastic materials
• Printing or specialty printing
• Acoustic products
• Woodworking or cabinetry
• Case clamp or dowel-based assembly equipment
• CNC or automated production equipment
• Reading drawings, specifications or technical documentation
• Low-volume/high-mix manufacturing
• Project-based manufacturing
