Overview At the Lafayette Engine Facility, interns will observe the day-to-day activities of technicians who go beyond typical jet engine mechanics. Lafayette operates as a network of interconnected business units focused on safety, quality, and delivery goals, allowing team members high flexibility and professional development. In this role interns will be based at GE Aerospace’s state‑of‑the‑art facility in Lafayette, Indiana, supporting new jet engine assembly for LEAP and Passport engines as well as LEAP engine overhaul. Interns will have the opportunity to grow and develop in unlimited ways. Roles and Responsibilities Participate in a flexible workforce Work in a shop environment adhering to all safety policies Be a member of a team and take an active role in team decision-making Proactively reach out to Workstation Owners, KPO team, and project owners to start or complete projects Design and implement continuous improvement projects (e.g., kitting, carts, etc.) Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale without rounding Access to export-controlled information requires one of the following statuses: US citizen or national, US permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Industrial Engineering discipline (an ABET‑accredited program) Desired Characteristics Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering Technology (an ABET‑accredited program) and holding an FAA Powerplant certificate Prioritizes safety and quality Excellent oral and written communication skills Self‑motivated and able to take initiative Openness to give and receive feedback across the site Ability to teach and coach others Critical thinking capability and maturity of judgement Experience with power tools (saws, drills, etc.) Hands‑on mechanical experience and ability to interpret drawings from concept to finished product Additional Information 8‑week internship, 40 hours per week Requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information; employment contingent upon proving status as a U.S. person (US lawful permanent resident, US citizen, asylee, or refugee) Offer of employment conditioned upon successful drug screen (as applicable) Relocation assistance: none GE Aerospace is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
