Tax Manager (Newport Beach, CA)

Job Summary We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our Tax Team. The Tax group works with our wealth advisors to provide tax compliance services to high‑net‑worth clients. This role focuses on client service rather than public‑accounting firm activities. We provide a supportive environment, a great work/life balance, and no audit or assurance work. Responsibilities As a member of the Tax Team, the Tax Manager is primarily responsible for leading client relationships, preparing, reviewing, and delivering income tax returns, tax projections, and analysis for our clients. Essential Job Functions Prepare, review, and sign tax returns for high‑net‑worth individuals, trusts, and businesses. Create quarterly estimates and projections. Communicate clearly and concisely with clients regarding income tax returns. Perform tax research. Respond to tax questions, estimates, projections, and analysis promptly for both tax and wealth management clients. Work with tax staff to respond to tax notices and review correspondence. Stay updated on tax law changes and communicate effects to clients. Mentor a team of Senior Tax Associates, Tax Associates, and/or Tax Support Specialists. Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Minimum 5+ years of public accounting experience or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. Strong tax code knowledge and general accounting skills. CPA and/or EA required. Experience with CCH, including Axcess, Workflow and Practice, and SafeSend is a plus. Highly organized and tax‑oriented. Ability to handle a large volume of activities simultaneously. Ability to communicate concepts to clients and advisors concisely. Detail‑oriented with excellent time‑management skills. Work Schedule Standard business hours Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, with Saturdays as needed during tax season. Early or late hours may be required to meet deadlines. Working Conditions Position may be performed in a professional office or a dedicated home office. Routine sitting and standing for periods. No heavy lifting over 10 lbs. Compensation Base pay: $106,000 – $125,000 USD, based on location, experience, education, skills, and certifications. Eligible for incentive compensation through Mercer Advisors’ incentive compensation programs.
