Payroll Specialist

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Pay Rate: $30–$34/hour Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for a large, multi-state workforce of 1,300+ employees. This role is ideal for someone with strong payroll expertise, excellent data accuracy, and experience working in complex environments with both hourly and salaried employees, including union populations. The ideal candidate is dependable, tech-savvy, and understands the importance of precision—recognizing that every paycheck directly impacts an employee’s livelihood. Key Responsibilities Process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll cycles with accuracy and timeliness Review and audit timecards, pay codes, PTO, and sick time to ensure data integrity Process new hires, terminations, retroactive pay, commissions, and bonuses Handle payroll corrections, off-cycle checks, and pay adjustments Ensure compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws, including FLSA Respond to employee payroll and timekeeping inquiries in a professional and timely manner Support payroll reporting, audits, and record retention requirements Partner with HR to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies Manage garnishments end-to-end, including setup, maintenance, and terminations Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive payroll and employee information Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies Required Qualifications 5+ years of multi-state payroll processing experience Experience supporting a workforce of similar size and complexity Strong knowledge of FLSA, overtime rules, and wage and hour regulations High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy Excellent organizational and time management skills Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills Stable work history (seeking candidates with consistent tenure) Preferred Qualifications Experience with Dayforce (Ceridian) or similar HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, UKG) Experience with union payroll and/or complex pay structures (e.g., component pay) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation Fully on-site role Fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment supporting a distributed workforce Additional Notes Local candidates only Benefit Offerings include medical, dental, vision, additional voluntary benefits, 401K plan.
