This role operates a variety of metal processing equipment to cut, shape, and prepare steel materials according to customer specifications. The job operator maintains a clean and safe work area, handles materials using overhead cranes and manual methods, and ensures all finished parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards. The position requires consistent attention to safety, accuracy in measurement, and effective communication with coworkers and supervisors in a physically demanding, industrial environment.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including proper storage of stock and in‑process materials.
• Safely lift and transport materials using overhead cranes, following all proper rigging procedures.
• Position materials accurately on shear or saw tables and securely attach or remove magnets, chains, slings, and other lifting devices.
• Identify, select, and retrieve correct materials based on work instructions or job tickets.
• Perform and document pre‑shift inspections of cranes, chains, and lifting attachments.
• Align material to shear blades or saw roller guides and set blade gaps according to plate thickness.
• Cut both simple and complex parts with precision using appropriate equipment.
• Inspect finished parts according to control plans, drawings, and work orders, ensuring all specified tolerances are met.
• Finish, package, and tag materials to meet customer specifications.
• Record and maintain heat numbers on all drops and return them to proper storage locations.
• Use measuring tools accurately and consistently to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to support workflow and maintain a safe operation.
• Follow all safety rules, regulations, and best practices at all times.
• Keep work areas, cranes, and surrounding spaces free of debris and potential hazards.
• Operate one or more types of equipment, including CNC shear, drill, press brake, burning machine, band saw, or ironworker.
• Perform manual lifting and carrying of materials up to 75 lbs as needed.
• Carry out physical tasks such as bending, squatting, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, and positioning material.
• Reach, guide, place, and pry materials as required for production tasks.
• Work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and extreme weather.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings, including other cranes, workers, equipment, and alarms.
• Demonstrate adequate vision to read measuring devices, drawings, and related documentation.
• Troubleshoot basic issues with equipment and processes to support continuous production.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and related technical documents when required.
• Use laser or related cutting/measurement technologies as needed for production tasks.

• Ability to read and write to understand shipping documents, company policies, and work rules.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and related technical drawings.
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately and make simple fractional calculations.
• Understanding of simple fractions and their application to measurements and cutting operations.
• Proficiency in using measuring tools consistently and accurately.
• Ability to safely operate overhead cranes, including proper rigging and material handling procedures.
• Capability to operate equipment such as CNC shear, drill, press brake, burning machine, band saw, or ironworker.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for equipment and process issues.
• Ability to climb on and off trucks during loading and unloading operations.
• Ability to stay on feet for the entire shift.
• Ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift steel materials as necessary, including manual lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Capacity to work more than 40 hours per week when required to perform essential duties.
• Ability to work safely in a sheltered outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures.
• Sufficient vision to read measuring devices, drawings, and related documentation.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and supervisors.

• Experience operating CNC shear, drill, press brake, burning machine, band saw, or ironworker in an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with laser-based cutting or measurement technologies.
• Experience working with control plans, work orders, and quality documentation.
• Comfort working with heat numbers and traceability requirements for steel materials.
• Prior experience in metal fabrication, steel service centers, or similar industrial environments.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting tight tolerances and customer specifications.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures.

The work takes place in a sheltered outdoor industrial environment with seasonal exposure to extreme heat and cold. You work around overhead cranes, metal processing equipment such as CNC shear, drills, press brakes, burning machines, band saws, and ironworkers, as well as lasers and various rigging devices including magnets, chains, and slings. The role is physically demanding and requires standing for an entire shift, frequent bending, squatting, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, and manual lifting of materials up to 75 lbs. You may regularly work more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties. The environment emphasizes safety, housekeeping, and constant awareness of surrounding cranes, workers, equipment, and alarms, and you can expect to wear appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment suitable for a metal fabrication setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
