Surgical Med/Surg Unit OpportunityThe Surgical Med/Surg Unit is a fast-paced, patient-centered unit specializing in the care of post-surgical patients recovering from a variety of procedures. This 24-bed unit provides comprehensive nursing care for adult patients following surgical interventions, with a strong focus on recovery, pain management, mobility, education, and discharge planning.Patients admitted to this unit may include those recovering from:Colorectal surgeriesUrological proceduresOrthopedic surgeriesGeneral surgeriesWomen's Surgery overflow patientsThe RN on this unit works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compassionate care while promoting optimal patient outcomes.Unit Details24-bed Surgical Med/Surg UnitNurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–1:6 depending on acuityCollaborative team environmentOpportunities to develop advanced post-operative nursing skillsResponsibilitiesAssess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient careMonitor post-operative recovery and identify complicationsAdminister medications and treatments as orderedProvide patient and family education regarding recovery and discharge careCollaborate with physicians, therapists, case management, and ancillary staffMaintain accurate and timely documentationPromote patient safety and quality outcomesThe Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at Novant Health by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.QualificationsEducation: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license.
