Disinfection Systems Technician I (Flex)

This position is a flex position. Candidates will be hired in at a level I, with a starting salary of $31.45 hourly. After a6–24-month period, the selected candidate will be evaluated to determine if they meet the criteria to flex to a level II,with a starting salary of $36.42 hourly. Hours of Work: 4/10's. 5am-3:30pm, Mon-Thurs.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
will have two years of increasingly responsible general maintenance experience in maintenanceand processes that relate to a large potable water operation, and the disinfection processes and related state andlocal requirements for water storage facilities that meet the Safe Drinking Water Standards; will possess mechanicaland troubleshooting skills and have strict adherence to prescribed safety and work practices. Have the ability to demonstrate interpersonal and strong communication abilities, administrative qualities, and customer service skills;and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; the possession of a State of Nevada DistributionGade 1 at time of hire is desirable along with a Nevada Class A License with required endorsements within 6 monthsof hire. Candidates must also hold Water Distribution Operator II and Water Treatment Operator I certifications within 6 months of hire date to flex to a level II technician.INTRODUCTION
Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessingthe strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluationand to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass adrug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in the inspection, maintenance, servicing and repair ofhypochlorite equipment and facilities used in well production and distribution, storage and disinfection of potablewater systems; receives deliveries and maintains storage of sodium hypochlorite, following all applicable safetyprocedures and protocols; performs preventative and reactive maintenance and repair of non-chemical pumpingequipment, reservoirs, tanks and related systems; and performs related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Principles and procedures in the operation, servicing and repair of distribution system chemical and nonchemicalpumps, valves, motors, diesel engines and electronic, computerized and manual control systems in a large, complexpotable water distribution, storage and disinfection system; sodium hypochlorite storage management andhazardous transportation and field delivery requirements; pipefitting and plumbing practices and proceduresassociated with the installation of potable water and sodium hypochlorite systems in reservoirs and other facilities;methods and practices in the installation, maintenance and repair of chemical injection and delivery systems and machinery and equipment of similar complexity; water quality sampling and testing requirements and procedures; local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding the production, treatment, storage and transmission ofpotable water, including the Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant EPA regulations; water industry math; hazards ofthe work and required safety practices and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment and airmonitoring equipment for confined space entry and chemical exposure; enterprise applications related to the work, including SCADA and computerized maintenance management systems. Ability to: Operate, repair, install and align a wide variety of pumping, control, distribution and disinfection system equipment, including digital control equipment; calibrate pumps and chemical feed systems; read and assess the significance of control system meters, gauges and other components and diagnose conditions and problems; install, repair and rebuild chemical feed systems; service and repair reservoir equipment and machinery; access and utilize maintenancemanagement system databases for system component information; read valve books, blueprints and schematicdrawings; prepare clear and concise records and reports; understand and follow oral and written instructions;communicate effectively in writing and orally; exercise independent judgment and initiative within establishedprocedures and guidelines; and establish and maintain effective relationships in with those encountered in thecourse of the work. Training and Experience: The following are typical ways of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above: Disinfection Systems Technician I– Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of increasinglyresponsible general maintenance experience in potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution; or anequivalent combination of training and experience. Disinfection Systems Technician II – A Disinfection Systems Technician I may be considered for advancement to Disinfection Systems Technician II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latterclass. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria areestablished jointly by hiring authorities and the Director, Human Resources and are described in a separatedocument. Typically, a Disinfection Systems Technician I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 24-month period, depending on an individual’s prior experience and progression in performing the full range ofDisinfection Systems Technician II duties as described in the established performance criteria.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
