Access Specialist I - Patient Services

This part-time, per diem position focuses on ensuring accurate patient scheduling, registration, and financial processing with a warm and professional approach.

Job Summary

As a Patient Access Specialist I, you will be responsible for registering patients accurately, verifying insurance and benefits, and managing referrals and pre-authorizations. You will conduct patient interviews prior to visits, handle point-of-service collections, and maintain precise records while providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and register patients using healthcare software, ensuring data integrity including patient identification and insurance verification.
  • Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for services.
  • Conduct registration interviews to gather necessary patient information.
  • Collect patient financial responsibilities such as co-pays and co-insurances, manage cash drawer operations, and generate receipts.
  • Operate multi-line phone systems to respond promptly and professionally to inquiries.
  • Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality throughout the intake process.
  • Complete daily assignments, administrative tasks, and special projects as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and support a positive work environment.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with insurance verification systems and healthcare software.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and various office equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Capacity to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and environments.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to positive collaboration.

Physical Requirements

Includes occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 35 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and operating office equipment.
