Foothill-De Anza Community College District Position Overview Job Number: R05241 Job Type: Full Time - Classified Location: District, CA Department: Environmental Health & Safety Salary Grade: C3-68 Salary: $8,161.75 - $10,937.50 per month Starting Salary: $8,161.75 per month plus benefits Closing: Continuous (open until filled) Bargaining Unit: CSEA Campus: Central Services Full Salary Range: $8,161.75 - $10,937.50 per month Work Environment: No remote work policy; employees must be available on-site Responsibilities Manage campus-wide environmental programs, including writing technical documents and updates such as Hazardous Materials Business Plans, and uploading them using CERS. Prepare periodic regulatory reports on E-waste, hazardous waste, air quality, industrial waste, and closure reports. Work with agencies (Bay Area Quality Management District, California Integrated Water Management Board, Department of Environmental Health, Department of Health Services, etc.) to ensure compliance. Participate in inspections of hazardous material and waste storage areas, advise on maintenance, and define improvement areas. Maintain detailed records for training, manifests, universal waste management, and other environmental programs. Participate in the closure process for residue waste, including defining waste for re-utilization, developing closure plans, conducting remedial activities, and editing final reports. Perform waste determinations with consultants and interpret analysis for agencies. Coordinate data management for tracking all universal and electronic waste from all campus locations. Manage and track hazardous waste manifests and annual DTSC reporting. Partner with campus departments (e.g., Plant Services) to implement environmental standard changes. Develop and conduct environmental training, both online and in direct instruction. Communicate effectively with campus staff to enhance compliance. Maintain logs and spreadsheets of inspections, share findings for instruction and improvement. Respond to immediate environmental concerns and spills, resolve safety issues, and report activities as requested. Safeguard district property and adhere to federal, state, and local environmental safety regulations. Attend district and college training sessions and incorporate new information or technology. Use safety equipment, supplies, and procedures as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Employment Standards Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and compliance programs. Understanding of inspection protocols and regulatory interfaces with agency inspectors. Proficiency in chemistry and industrial hygiene. Familiarity with waste characteristics and determinations. Ability to explain compliance aspects clearly. Abilities Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, disabilities, and orientations. Interpret, apply, and explain detailed environmental rules and programs. Coordinate chemical spill and leak responses. Support contingency plans for campus buildings. Exhibit strong interpersonal, tact, patience, and courtesy skills. Perform administrative duties, including spreadsheet updates and uploads. Manage time and meet high-volume productivity schedules. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Observe safety requirements and practices. Work independently and with minimal supervision. Minimum Qualifications Understanding and respect for diverse backgrounds, disabilities, and orientations. Bachelor's degree in a science field (environmental studies, chemistry, or related) and at least three (3) years of experience in a comparable position. Working knowledge of California Title 22 regulations, Air District permits, and regulations. License or Certification Valid class C California driver’s license. Asbestos and/or lead certification (preferred). DOT hazardous materials certification (preferred). Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification (preferred). Registered Environmental Assessor certification or similar (preferred). Physical Abilities Hearing and speaking for information exchange. Hand dexterity for task performance. Vision for hazard awareness. Regularly stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive motions. Climb ladders of varying heights. Maneuver in crawl spaces, attics, elevated sheds, and tunnels. Lift moderate to heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
