Senior Multifamily Truss Designer / Design Lead
Location: Gainesville, FL
Compensation: $110,000–$140,000, negotiable based on experience

Our client, an established family-owned manufacturer serving the construction industry, is seeking a Senior Multifamily Truss Designer / Design Lead to handle complex structural designs while serving as a technical resource and mentor to other designers.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced truss designer who enjoys solving challenging design problems, reviewing the work of others, and helping a design team improve its technical capabilities. The position remains hands-on with design while offering the opportunity to influence standards, quality, and team development.

Compensation

Responsibilities
• Design engineered roof and floor truss systems for multifamily, commercial, and large residential projects
• Create wall-panel layouts and designs based on architectural and structural plans
• Complete complex project layouts using MiTek Sapphire Structure
• Review designs completed by other team members for accuracy, quality, and plan compliance
• Verify loads, dimensions, connections, specifications, and structural requirements
• Serve as a technical resource for designers working through challenging layouts or design issues
• Train and mentor junior and intermediate truss designers
• Lead technical training sessions and provide constructive design feedback
• Help develop and improve internal design standards, workflows, and quality-control procedures
• Troubleshoot design conflicts before they affect production or project schedules
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, estimators, sales, and manufacturing teams
• Support a smooth transition from design and engineering through production
• Maintain accurate project records and communicate design changes clearly
• Ensure work complies with applicable codes, project requirements, and industry standards

Qualifications
• At least five years of multifamily truss design experience
• Hands-on experience designing wall panels
• Advanced proficiency with MiTek Sapphire Structure
• Experience designing complex multifamily, commercial, or large residential projects
• Strong understanding of structural principles, load paths, connections, and truss-system performance
• Working knowledge of ANSI/TPI 1 standards and applicable building codes
• Ability to interpret architectural plans, structural drawings, specifications, and project documents
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate designs
• Ability to communicate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and production teams
• Leadership mindset with an interest in training and developing other designers

Preferred Experience
• Reviewing and approving work completed by other truss designers
• Leading design quality-control or plan-review processes
• Training or mentoring within a truss, component-manufacturing, design, or engineering department
• Helping establish design standards, workflows, or department procedures
