Job Description:


- Shift Details:
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend as scheduled

- Unit Overview:
- CVICU with 18 beds
- Mixed acuity with Step Down and ICU status patients

- Nurse to Patient Ratios:
- 1:1 for fresh hearts & devices
- 1:2 for ICU status patients
- 1:3 for step down status patients

- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)

- Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:
- Atrial fibrillation
- Heart blocks
- Bradycardia
- NSTEMI
- STEMI
- Cardiac Arrest
- Hyper/Hypotension
- Pulmonary Embolisms
- Cardiogenic Shock
- Heart Surgery (CABG/Valves)
- Heart Failure
- Thoracic Surgery (VATS, Lobectomy, etc.)

- Experience or 'Must Have' Skills:
- Prefer fresh open heart experience (min. 6 hr post-op open heart patients)
- CRRT experience
- Temporary Pacemakers & Post Perm. Pacer experience
- Acute MI - Pre/post cath experience
- Mediastinal/Chest tubes experience
- Ventilator experience
- Hypothermia Protocol experience
- Experience with drips listed below
- Arterial Line experience
- Prefer IABP/Impella experience
- Prefer Hemodynamic Monitoring/Swan-Ganz experience

- Unit Support and Staffing:
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor roles are rare on nights; charge nurses take assignments
- 1-2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift
- Hospitalist or Intensivist in-house
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Equipment: Vents, Trach-vent, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow, Trilogy

- Monitoring:
- Telemetry monitored off-unit, RNs address alarms and read own strips (Philips monitors)

- Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests allowed
- Flexibility during schedule balance period
- Weekend and Holiday requirements as needed to fill unit needs

- Floating Requirements:
- Travelers float first primarily to ACU and ICU; can float to Med-Surg & Tele with a max of 6 patients

- Dress Code:
- Royal Blue Scrubs

- Orientation:
- 1 week including modules, Epic training, and unit RN orientation
