Utility Profit is building the technology infrastructure that makes moving easier. Moving is powered by fragmented data, outdated provider systems, phone calls, PDFs, and manual administrative work. Our platform connects every home with the electricity, gas, water, and internet providers that actually serve that address helping renters and homebuyers discover their options and get essential services activated. Behind that simple customer experience is a difficult technical problem: there are little to no APIs and we're often navigating ever changing and poorly designed websites. We are developing AI-powered automation that can understand unfamiliar processes, interact with external systems, manage exceptions, and turn messy real-world work into reliable software. Our technology performs meaningful operational work that has traditionally required people, phone calls, and repetitive manual effort. We serve property managers, title companies, renters, and homebuyers putting in long hours that are often underserved with technology. We are based in Austin and work together in person Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. About the Role Utility Profit is looking for an AI-native Product Lead to own an important product area from customer discovery through measurable business results. This is fundamentally a product leadership role. You will talk directly with customers, identify the right problems to solve, set product direction, design experiences, make prioritization decisions, and lead a small product pod consisting of you and one or two engineers.Using modern AI coding, design, research, and analytics tools, you will build prototypes, explore data, test technical ideas, design customer experiences, and contribute directly to working software.You will report to product leadership and work closely with Engineering, Design, Operations, Sales, and customers. Responsibilities: Customer Discovery: Own a meaningful customer or business problem within a small, focused team. Develop a deep understanding of our customers, users, and operational teams affected by your product area. Conduct customer interviews, observe workflows, analyze support conversations, study product behavior, and identify problems that need solving. Move quickly from customer discovery to something customers can see and use. Define the strategy, goals, and priorities for your product area. Translate customer problems and company priorities into a focused set of product goals. Clearly explain what your team should build, why it matters, how success will be measured, and what the team has chosen not to pursue. Use data, customer evidence, technical understanding and business judgment to guide your decision-making. Build with AI: Use AI-assisted coding and prototyping tools to turn ideas into working software. Build prototypes, workflows, internal tools, integrations, and scoped product improvements. Product and Experience Design: Think through the complete product experience, including primary workflows, edge cases, error states, trust, communication and operational requirements. Move quickly from rough ideas to realistic interfaces that customers can react to. Use customer feedback and product data to continuously refine the experience. Technical Problem Solving : Become deeply familiar with the systems supporting your product area. Work with engineers to understand architecture, constraints, dependencies, data flows, reliability risks and implementation tradeoffs. Measurement and Iteration : Establish clear success metrics. Use product analytics, operational data, customer feedback and direct observation to evaluate results. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Support, Design, and our Executive Team. Communicate progress, decisions, risks, results and lessons clearly. What We’re Looking For Product Leadership: You have owned a meaningful product, workflow, business area, or customer problem from discovery through launch and iteration. Customer Development: You are strong at speaking with customers, asking thoughtful follow-up questions, and identifying the problem beneath a requested feature. You know how to turn qualitative feedback into product insight. You are equally comfortable on a customer call, examining product data, designing an experience, and working through a technical question with an engineer. Builder Mentality: You naturally look for ways to create, test and learn rather than only discussing what should be built. You have built prototypes, automations, analyses, internal tools, workflows, websites, integrations or functional software. AI Fluency: You actively use AI tools to increase the speed and quality of your work. You have experimented with AI-assisted coding, research, analysis, prototyping or design and have developed judgment about where these tools are powerful, where they are unreliable and how their output should be reviewed. Technical Acumen: You are comfortable getting close to the systems and data behind a product. You can inspect logs and session events, explore dashboards in tools like Datadog and Metabase, write or modify SQL queries, and maybe even make small changes to a modern web application, such as adjusting CSS. You do not need to be a software engineer, but you should be willing to investigate technical questions independently and use AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar systems to make scoped improvements or answer questions about how systems work. Design Sense: You are comfortable creating product flows and interface concepts and using a design system to turn them into realistic experiences. Startup Experience: Experience at an early-stage or rapidly growing technology company. Clear Communication : You communicate directly and precisely. You can explain the customer problem, product decision, technical tradeoff, and expected outcome without hiding behind jargon or excessive documentation. Bias to Action: You move quickly, but you do not confuse activity with progress. You know when to prototype, when to ship a narrow first version, and when reliability, security, or customer trust requires a more deliberate approach. Resourceful : You identify what is unclear, find the people or information required, and move the work forward. You are comfortable operating with meaningful autonomy and high expectations.
