About the Neurology Department

The Department of Neurology comprises a diverse faculty specializing in both adult and pediatric neurology, committed to providing exceptional care to our community. Our faculty members are also part of the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, a distinctive institute that includes experts from Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, engaged in leading-edge translational and clinical neuroscience research at our institution.

About the Academic Neurologist/Neuromuscular Medicine Role

We are seeking to hire two full-time academic neurologists within our Neurology Department to establish a comprehensive neuromuscular medicine program. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in neurology and have completed a fellowship specializing in neuromuscular medicine.

The ideal applicants will possess the necessary skills to diagnose and treat patients with neuromuscular disorders. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate excellent clinical abilities, a passion for education, and the potential for scholarly contributions to join our vibrant department in a forward-thinking and expanding medical school. Candidates should be eager to develop a robust neuromuscular practice at our clinical facility, aiming to become a local and regional referral center with a national influence. There are numerous opportunities for collaborative research within our medical school and across various departments at the University.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a clinical expert in adult neuromuscular disorders for our medical school
• Engage in strategic planning and initiatives related to the establishment and expansion of a comprehensive neuromuscular disorders program and new general diagnostic neurology clinics
• Build partnerships with referring physicians, hospitals, and ancillary providers in Austin and Central Texas
• Contribute to the development of a data and evaluation framework for ongoing assessment of clinical quality and patient cost outcomes
• Participate in creating and implementing educational curricula for Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education focused on evaluating and managing common neurology issues, particularly neuromuscular disorders
• Train and mentor medical students and residents in innovative care models and clinical practices
• Encourage a culture of scientific inquiry and academic exploration among trainees and researchers within a multidisciplinary team
• Collaborate with other schools at the University on multidisciplinary, value-based care initiatives
• Actively engage in departmental activities in accordance with all required policies

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

• Current Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (or board eligible if within two years of residency)
• Completion of fellowship training focused on neuromuscular medicine
• Unrestricted medical license to practice in Texas (or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment)
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic setting
