Family Law Paralegal

Family Law ParalegalLocation: New York, NYThe Paralegal supports attorneys through case management, legal document preparation, research, discovery, and administrative support that contributes to efficient case management and effective client service. This role works closely with attorneys and other team members to maintain organization across matters, assist with case strategy and preparation, and ensure the timely and accurate completion of legal work. The position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines while providing proactive and reliable support to the legal team.Responsibilities:Assists attorneys with the management of Family Law matters, including divorce, custody, support, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and post-judgment matters.Prepares, drafts, and reviews legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, financial statements, net worth statements, correspondence, and other case-related materials under attorney supervision.Maintains organized case files, calendars, and case management systems; monitors deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements to ensure timely completion of legal work.Serves as a liaison between attorneys and clients by maintaining professional communication, gathering and organizing information and documentation, and providing case-related updates as directed by the attorney.Assists with the collection, organization, and review of financial records and other documentation relevant to divorce, support, equitable distribution, and other Family Law matters.Coordinates and assists with preparation for trials, hearings, depositions, conferences, and court appearances, including organizing exhibits, evidence, and supporting documentation.Prepares and coordinates the timely filing and service of legal documents with courts, clerks' offices, and other relevant agencies and entities.May travel occasionally to courts, County Clerk's Offices, or other locations for filings, document retrieval, hearings, or attorney support.Tracks and records billable and non-billable time in compliance with firm policies and reporting requirements.Maintains compliance with applicable legal, ethical, confidentiality, and firm standards.Performs other duties as assigned.Skills and Competencies:Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentExcellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detailStrong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize information and communicate findings effectivelyHigh level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential informationAbility to work collaboratively and independently in support of attorney teams and client needsEducation, Training, and Experience:Bachelor's degree, or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution preferred.Minimum of 7 years of substantive Family Law paralegal experience, preferably with experience handling New York Family Law matters.Strong working knowledge of New York Family Law procedures, court rules, filing requirements, and deadlines.Experience with divorce, custody, support, equitable distribution, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, post-judgment matters, discovery, and financial documentation, including net worth statements.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines with minimal supervision.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.Proven ability to develop and maintain professional client relationships and handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.Experience assisting with hearings, depositions, trials, conferences, and court appearances preferred.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentPhysical Requirements: Standard physical requirements apply (prolonged periods of sitting; regular use of a computer and office equipment; occasional light lifting)Work Environment: Standard work environment applies (professional office environment or remote work setting, which may include stairs and/or elevators; noise level is generally moderate)Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.EEO Statement: We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other legally protected status.
