The Fabrication Welder sets up and welds together metal components of products such as pipe, flanges, extensions, and plates; identifies, manually welds, and repairs defects in welded pipe with electric arc-welding equipment.

Follows all safety policies and initiates safety improvements.

• • Set-up and operate welding machines in the fabrication of metal products and assemblies.
  • Strikes (forms) arc, manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Self-examination of weld for bead size, proper surface finish, and compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
  • Tacks assemblies together.
  • Identifies areas of pipe that require repair, either pre-marked by inspectors or through visual inspection.
  • Positions pipe on repair rack to facilitate the repair process.
  • Performs necessary preparatory work by grinding, preheating or otherwise preparing pipe.
  • Compliance with all safety rules.

• Requires minimal, if any, supervision to accomplish the essential functions of the job.
• Successfully passes all annual weld tests.
• Other duties may be assigned by management including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must be able to work 2nd Shift schedule.
2. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
3. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read and understand pipe drawings, and procedure manuals.

2. Must be able to speak effectively with supervisors and other employees.
3. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
4. Must be able to accurately read tape measure.
5. Must be able to understand and execute instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
6. Must be able to recognize and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
7. Must be able to use company computer systems to view and understand the action required from the dispatch list.
8. Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
9. Must be able to read, understand and interpret blueprints and weld procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. AWS Certification.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

• The employee is regularly required to sit or stand; use their hands, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include both close and distant vision.
• Successful passing of vision test (20/30 with or without corrective lenses; if corrective lenses required, corrective lenses must be worn while completing all essential job functions and responsibilities) required every 2 years.
