Job TitleThe OpticianPosition SummaryThe Optician must be able to work with our diverse base of customers (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, and adult) by delivering quality optical care and outstanding and friendly customer service establishing customer loyalty. The Optician must be able to assist patients with eyeglasses ordering and fittings. The Optician must also possess strong sales skills by demonstrating a high level of knowledge about our products and determining our patient's need for eyewear to recommend specific accessories and or enhancement for glasses.ResponsibilitiesInterpretation of prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometristsCommunicate with physician regarding questions or concerns about prescriptions and other eye-related issuesInspect lenses to detect flaws, verify prescription, progressive measurements, lens enhancements and coatings.Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers, using measuring devicesMount and secure lenses in holding tools or chucks for cutting, polishing, and or grindingAssist in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptionsRecommend specific lenses, lens coating, other lens enhancements, and frames to suit patient needsRecommend appropriate contact lenses after considering the prescription and the patient's lifestyle needsVerify that finished lenses are ground to specificationsCreate work orders for lab technicians to ensure delivery of the proper lensesSet up machines to polish, bevel, edge, or grind lenses -Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to properly fitShape lenses appropriately so that they can be inserted into framesRepair broken/damaged framesEducate on proper wear, care of eyeglasses, and contact lensInspect lenses to detect flaws, verify prescription, progressive measurements, lens enhancements and coatings.Determine clients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers, and mark up progressives correctlySell and Dispense contact lenses under supervision of physician or LDOPlace contact lens orders with appropriate vendorsInstructs patients on proper insertion, removal, and proper care for contact lensesVerifies information in the fitting of contacts by using a lensometer, slit lamp, keratometer, and/or radius scope to order specification(s).Troubleshoot patient RX issues and act as a liaison between patient and physicianMaintain Contact Lens Trial InventoryInventory - Properly document, track, and follow-up on patient orders to ensure superb customer serviceArrange and maintain displays of optical merchandiseAttend training workshops/meetings as scheduledOther duties as assignedQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredABO CertifiedMinimum 2 years eyecare experience requiredMinimum Associates or equivalent and on-the-job training or post-secondary educationAbility to demonstrate eye–hand coordination, manual/finger dexterity, agility, and color vision and depth perception with visual acuity correctable to 20/25 while fitting eyeglasses and contactsIntermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPointTeam player that develops strong collaborative working relationships with internal partners and can effectively engage and to build consensus among cross-functional teamsStrong computer knowledge and skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 AW PM Able to navigate multiple system applicationsAbility to effectively communicateProfessionalismMulti-taskingTime ManagementOrganizational SkillsAttention to DetailAble to navigate multiple system applications.Preferred Skills:Prior retail sales or work in the healthcare industry (preferred)Company BenefitsWe offer a competitive benefits package to our employees:MedicalDentalVision401k w/ MatchHSA/FSATelemedicineGenerous PTO PackageWe also offer the following benefits for FREE:Employee Discounts and PerksEmployee Assistance ProgramGroup Life/AD&DShort Term Disability InsuranceLong Term Disability InsuranceEyeSouth Partners is an equal opportunity employer.
