Starter & Player Assistant (Ranger) at the Port Jefferson Country Club Role Overview The Starter/Ranger is the "Director of the First Tee" and the "Guardian of the Pace of Play." You are responsible for ensuring a seamless flow of play while maintaining the club's high standards for etiquette, dress code, and course care. Key Responsibilities Tee Management: Deliver the standard PJCC starter message (Divots, Ball Marks, Bunkers) to every group. Log all cart numbers into the iPad for tracking. Pace of Play: Actively monitor the course and input pace updates into the iPad. Check in with every group at "The Turn" (Hole 9) to ensure they are on schedule. Course Stewardship: Monitor player etiquette, music volumes, and dress code. Proactively collect litter and ensure the Starter station remains clean and stocked. Professionalism & Uniform Standards Approved Attire: Must wear the official Starter/Ranger uniform. Because this is a role of authority regarding club rules, a polished and professional look is mandatory to command respect from the membership. Appearance: Uniforms must be crisp and professional. Name tags must be visible. Conduct: Maintain a "firm but friendly" demeanor. Professionalism in this role is defined by the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with members while maintaining firm control of the tee sheet and pace of play. Availability: 30–40 hours per week. Shifts: 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Opener) or 1:00 PM – Close (Closer).
