Description: The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite. They handle instruments during surgeries and maintain the sterile field. The role requires evaluation of changing conditions during surgical procedures and making appropriate responses as needed. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and the principles related to those procedures. They may serve as a Preceptor.

Education required: Associate's Degree or completion of an Accredited School of Surgical Technology.

Experience includes the ability to work effectively and efficiently as a member of a team. Aptitude for working with high-tech equipment is essential. Attention to detail is critical, along with intact sight and hearing. Eye-hand coordination is required, especially when loading or cutting sutures and handling instruments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Strong interpersonal skills, time management, and organizational skills are required. The candidate must be self-directed and capable of making quality independent decisions. Analytical and strong problem-solving skills are essential for this role. The individual should be able to work efficiently under tight deadlines with multiple interruptions. Maintaining strict levels of confidentiality is crucial. Ability to listen to others is required. Competency in using various computer hardware and software systems is necessary. Essential functions include: Providing sterile instruments and supplies during surgical procedures. Performing surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts. Creating and maintaining a sterile and safe environment. Preparing case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications for each surgical case. Assisting in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintaining a protective position throughout the case. Working proactively with physicians to submit preference card changes to align with specialties. Suggesting instrument set changes and collaborating with relevant departments to identify instrument sets that need attention. Actively engaging in case costing by discussing product usage with surgeons and suggesting cost savings. Participating in safety initiatives and completing all safety-related competencies and requirements in a timely manner. Performing other duties as assigned.
