Job Title: Electrode Coating Technician / Machine Operator
Job Description

The Electrode Coating Technician / Machine Operator operates, monitors, and maintains electrode coating equipment used in the production of battery electrodes. This role supports consistent product quality, stable processes, reliable equipment performance, and strong safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure coated electrodes meet precise specification requirements for downstream cell assembly.

Responsibilities

• Operate electrode coating, drying, calendaring, slitting, and material handling equipment using control panel machine controls.
• Prepare and load coating materials, slurries, rollers, and related components according to detailed work instructions.
• Monitor critical coating parameters such as coating thickness (down to 0.001 mm), web tension, line speed, oven temperatures, viscosity, and coating weight, ensuring all are measured and maintained within specification.
• Inspect coated electrodes for defects including streaks, wrinkles, pinholes, contamination, uneven coating, edge defects, and adhesion issues, applying strong attention to detail.
• Perform in-process measurements and quality checks using gauges, microscopes, and other metrology tools to verify product quality.
• Assist with machine setup, changeovers, cleaning, and preventive maintenance activities to support efficient production.
• Disassemble, clean, quality check, and reassemble coating pumps and equipment between production runs, following mechanical instructions and photo-based guidance.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment or process issues and escalate more complex problems to Engineering or Maintenance as needed.
• Maintain strict compliance with safety procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, chemical handling protocols, and clean manufacturing practices.
• Track and maintain accurate inventory of supplies and materials required for production.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement in process stability, quality, and throughput.

• Machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with machine setup and changeovers.
• Strong mechanical skills, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble machines and coating equipment after electrode runs.
• Demonstrated responsibility for in-process and finished product quality in a manufacturing setting, not limited to basic machine operation.
• Experience with production lines, assembly lines, or similar manufacturing operations.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure, scale, and other measuring equipment accurately.
• Capability to perform mechanical troubleshooting and basic equipment adjustments.
• Ability to stand for the majority of the shift and perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, and lifting as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required in a general manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail, especially when monitoring fine tolerances and critical quality parameters.
• Comfort working with coating processes, industrial machinery, and quality checks in a manufacturing industry setting.

• Experience operating slitter machines, punch presses, or similar industrial equipment.
• Background in coating operations or related industrial processes.
• Familiarity with production, quality check procedures, and documentation in a manufacturing environment.
• Comfort using basic hand tools such as wrenches and other mechanical tools.
• Exposure to automated equipment and willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
• Interest in problem solving and continuous improvement in a research and development or evolving production environment.

Work Environment

The facility is a very clean manufacturing environment designed to meet stringent battery production requirements. The coating area, while the most exposed to coating materials, remains well-maintained and orderly. The space is generally temperature controlled; even in warmer areas, temperatures are around the mid-70s Fahrenheit during summer. The organization is in rapid growth mode and is bringing in a significant amount of new automated equipment, creating a modern and evolving production floor. This is a first-shift position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed shoes, and employees should be prepared for a hands-on industrial setting that involves standing for most of the shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working around mechanical and coating equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Indianapolis,IN.
