Carrollton Middle School Part-time Day Custodian 2026-2027 School Year

Summary of Position: The primary function of this position is to serve as the on-call custodian during the day for the Middle School, Elementary School and JB Griffin buildings; maintaining the cleanliness of hallways, cafeterias, bathrooms and common areas. The ideal candidate will be able to stay late at times to help cover for sick time and vacation days throughout the district.

Reports to: Director of Facilities, Brady Dangler and Lead Custodian, Caleb Huegel

Compensation: $19.80 (compensation per collective bargaining agreement)

Working Hours: Monday-Thursday 8 A.M. - 1:30 P.M and Friday 8 A.M.-12 P.M.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, offices, gyms, cafeterias and any other assigned areas
• Respond to custodial emergencies across multiple buildings
• Cleanup cafeterias in multiple buildings after meals
• Will be expected to stay late to help cover for sick days and vacation days at times
• Sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, refilling paper products and soap dispensers and sanitizing and wiping high touch surfaces on a daily basis
• Shelves, walls, ceilings, furniture, ledges, trophy cases, window sills, etc. are to be in good condition and cleaned as needed
• Maintain overall cleanliness of assigned areas
• Empties trash and recycling containers
• Thorough knowledge of proper chemical use, occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work and the ability to use PPE when appropriate
• Performs deep cleaning of buildings during breaks and periods where students and teachers are not present, including the stripping and waxing of floors and a thorough clean of the items in the building
• Must be able to arm and disarm the buildings alarm system before and after each shift, taking responsibility for the buildings security
• Must carry and answer cell phone or radio/walkie talkie. Must check and keep up on emails
• Pay attention to facility use forms, and take the initiative to set up tables, chairs, bleachers, etc. prior to any and all assemblies and events taking place at the district and then the cleanup and teardown thereafter
• Light building maintenance, to include changing light bulbs, replacing soap dispensers, unlocking toilet stalls, plunging toilets, moving furniture, stocking paper, etc.
• Ability to operate various types of power equipment including riding floor cleaning machines
• Ability to use hand tools
• Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments
• Must have excellent time management and communication skills
• Other duties as assigned, to include but not limited to: cleaning exterior entrance ways, mowing grass, striping ball fields, weed whacking, snow shoveling, snow plowing, salting, pulling exterior trash, helping clean in parts of the school outside your section, etc.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling. Must be able to operate power tool equipment. Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds at a time.

Qualification: High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience preferred. On-the-job training offered.

Certification, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess an unrestricted Michigan Driver's License. Satisfactorily pass a law enforcement background check including fingerprints. Must pass a personal and professional reference background check. Must receive a satisfactory response to 4205-F Authorization for Release of Information and Employee History Check Under 1996 P.A.189 of 1996; MCL380.1230b. Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
