Job SummaryUnder general supervision, organizes, monitors, and supervises street and storm drain maintenance operations within the Public Works Department. The Streets Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of employees engaged in the repair and maintenance of the City streets and drainage system. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. Essential Job FunctionsMaintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work. Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.Oversees the daily operation of the Street and Drainage work activities.Supervises street maintenance, storm drainage, asphalt repair, concrete repair, road construction and complaint repairs.Organizes and plans work schedules and delegates assignments to crews. As well as train workers in equipment operation and safety procedures.Oversees the installation of concrete and asphalt material that is incidental to repair and/or maintenance of storm drainage systems.Coordinates finding with City Engineer as required solving problems of inadequate drainage structure or systems. Ensures that all trucks and equipment are in proper operating conditions and orders repairs as necessary.Responsible for observing and enforcing all safety regulations that apply to Division; takes disciplinary action when safety procedures are violated.Monitor and control supplies and equipment; order supplies and tools as necessary.Prepare documents for equipment procurement.Minimum Qualifications & RequirementsMust have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)Seven (7) to ten (10) years of related work experience to perform such job.Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.Knowledge, Abilities and SkillPrinciples and practices of street and storm drain maintenance.Equipment, tools, and materials used in public works activities and services.Proficient oral, interpersonal and written communication.OrganizationLeadershipRead and interprets maps, plans, sketches, schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.Working Conditions/Physical DemandsWork requires moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily. Work includes lifting, moving, and positioning/loading heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.), pulling, pushing, remain stationary or move about for the full workday may also be involved. Driving in adverse weather troublesome road conditions may be requiredDuties may involve assignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination. Examples include operating a motor vehicle, operates a personal computer or ascends / descends a ladder.Employee constantly performs work outdoors on a variety of public works projects. Employee is exposed to equipment/machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt or grease, and risk of personal injury when working along busy public roads, and sidewalks. Work is continually performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.
