Patient Care Specialist

The University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) is currentlyseeking a Patient Care Specialist for the Division ofPediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry. This positionplans, coordinates, and oversees a variety of professional andadministrative activities related to the efficient day-to-dayoperation of a department to facilitate patient care. The PatientCare Specialist is responsible for processing patient records andprovide problem solving to promote timeliness of care. Acts as apatient advocate, acquainting patients with policies and proceduresrelevant to their care and helping them navigate the system, asnecessary. This position will provide excellent customer service toinquiries regarding information, treatment, and special needs forpatients. Essential Functions: Coordinate communication between patients, family members,medical staff, administrative staff, and/or regulatoryagencies. Interview patients or their representatives to identifyproblems relating to care. Maintain knowledge of community services and resourcesavailable to patients. Refer patients to appropriate health care services orresources. Investigate and direct patient inquiries or complaints toappropriate medical staff members and follow up to ensuresatisfactory resolution. Explain policies, procedures, or services to patients usingmedical or administrative knowledge. Provide consultation or training to students, volunteers, orstaff on topics such as guest relations, patients' rights, andmedical issues. May provide assistance to students in themanagement of patient loads. Collect and report data on topics such as patient encountersand inter-institutional problems, making recommendations for changewhen appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications : Education: Bachelors in a healthcare profession or relatedfield of patient care. Experience: Two (2) years of related experience inhealthcare or health research setting. Supervisory Experience: N/A Certification/Licensure: N/A Other: Related experience may be substituted foreducation Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
