The role As our first Chief of Staff, your mission is to ensure that as we double in size in a year, we feel more like a tightly aligned, mission-driven, high-performing team. You will align the whole organization around a strong strategy, ensure effective communication and execution, and uphold our mission and values. You will report to the founder and Head of Project (CEO). Success looks like... Our leadership team is notably more effective, meeting 80% of weekly commitments to remove obstacles for the team and keep velocity high, communicating strategy and changes effectively and rapidly, and focusing time on the highest leverage issues. Our team operating system, 3OS, enables extremely high organizational and personal effectiveness, with a 90%+ score on monthly pulse checks. You have designed and optimized workflows in core tools (Notion, Discord, Discourse, Zoom), refined our OKR & strategic planning process, and improved information flow so teammates can show up and do great work. Special projects are executed with extremely high impact, regularly exceeding project goals. You take full ownership, show good judgment, learn rapidly, and seek help appropriately. You handle growth initiatives, events, organizational tensions, data projects, or whatever else is needed. You amplify team leadership by partnering with operations, community, growth, product, and engineering leaders to plan and execute work with maximum impact, reinforcing our mission, vision, strategy and values. You model our culture and are prepared to lead a functional area in the future. Success is likely if you... Have 4+ years of exceptional performance in fast-changing environments, including consulting and startups. This role can scale up for candidates with 7+ years experience. Learn rapidly. You can navigate ambiguity, acquire knowledge quickly, and build the necessary skills and network. Display exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management. You influence from the middle by earning trust, manage up and out effectively, and model intentional information gathering and management of stakeholders. Are a rigorous thinker who can break down complex problems in new domains and put structure to anything. You should have strong analytical and quantitative skills and be comfortable creating basic models or data dashboards. Are highly organized and obsessed with workflows, productivity, organization, and team collaboration. You enjoy structuring, iterating, and optimizing how you work and how others work. You are detail-oriented and strive for simplicity and elegance. Maintain an extremely high quality bar while moving quickly, earning trust through consistent delivery. You know when to push for higher quality and when "good enough" is acceptable. You ask for help when needed and help internal and external partners achieve great outcomes. Understand technology development (engineering, product workflows) and keep up with rapid changes in our developer product, market, and ecosystem. You can coordinate projects and strategies across partnerships, marketing, community and support.
