Purpose of Announcement

Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill one (1) current East Jefferson vacancy in the Department of Library. This employment list will also be used for future East and West Jefferson vacancies in various departments as they occur.

Kind of Work

The purpose of this position is to installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of Parish owned heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment (HVAC) systems, including but not limited to window air conditioning units, package and split air conditioning systems, heat pumps, chilled water systems, computer room A/C units, gas heaters, electric heaters, hydronic systems, air distribution and ventilation systems, cooling towers, refrigeration appliances, pneumatic and Direct Digital Controllers (DDC), three phase equipment (pumps, starters, motors, etc.). Install new duct work on new and existing systems. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a current Class A Jefferson Parish Mechanical Contractor's License OR a current Mechanical License from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors*. Possession of a CFC Technical Universal Certification as regulated and required by Section 608 of the Environmental Protection Agency regulations. PLUS, at least three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience in the servicing, troubleshooting, and installation of commercial and residential HVAC equipment. *NOTE: Applicants possessing a current Mechanical License from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors will be required to register with Jefferson Parish once an employment offer is extended. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

Kind of Examination

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL) The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
