Primary Location: Goldin Center, 2320 W Burleigh Street, Milwaukee WI 53206.

Summary

The Parent Partner delivers the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program. This position is full-time, with hours reflected seasonally:

• Academic Year (Labor Day to Memorial Day) - 40 hours per week.
• Summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day) - 30-39 hours per week.

Schedule is flexible and does include some evenings and weekends and may include more depending on the needs of the families.

The HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) Program is accredited by HIPPY International. It is a free, school-readiness home visiting program that teaches parents to be their child’s first teacher. COA is the only agency in the state of Wisconsin that offers the HIPPY Program. 

This position is a member of COA’s HIPPY team.

This is a full time year-round position eligible for benefits.

Main Job Responsibilities

Goal: Successfully implement curriculum with families.

• Maintain a full roster of 18-20 families throughout the year. 
• Implement curriculum through a combination of weekly in person and some virtual visits where approved. Visits include establishing rapport, review of previous materials, role play of curriculum activities, offering resources & referrals, providing program reminders and will integrate COA philosophy and goals.
• Deliver questionnaires, parent/child assessments, and surveys to parents and children as required.
• Complete and submit in a timely manner all reports and other documentation as required by COA. With coordinator, maintain current and complete files and roster.
• Actively participate in the mandatory Monday weekly staff training (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and other trainings and professional development as required.
• Inform the HIPPY Leadership of child/family progress and families’ issues and concerns as they arise. Provide referrals when appropriate.
• Provide information and resources to HIPPY families regarding all COA and other community programs. Be active in outreach and coalition building within the community to nurture cross-referral relationships.
• Actively participate in and seek out recruitment and outreach opportunities.
• Available to come into office for support, supervision, office time when wanted/needed and scheduled (in the HIPPY office).
• Assist with planning, attend, and lead activities at each monthly Family Gathering Night and other special events.

Other

Role model appropriate behavior at all times. This includes developing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships with stakeholders (colleagues, participants, parents, facilitators, community partners, etc.).

Build an effective working relationship with staff from other HIPPY sites and COA departments.

Attend professional development, meetings, conferences, etc. 

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Experience  

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Relevant direct service experience with children and families similar to those COA serves.
• Must be able to practice the curriculum on a weekly basis with a “practice” child ages two, three or four (if required).
• Current or previous participation in HIPPY preferred.

Skills/Competencies

• Ability and willingness to listen, learn and ask questions.
• Philosophical compatibility with COA mission, programs, and service delivery.
• Per HIPPY International: Ability to read, write, and speak well in the curriculum language they will use.
• Effective interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships. Cultural competency. Respect for diversity of all types.
• Proficiency in standard office software, especially Excel, Google suite, video conferencing, etc.
• Good organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent time management skills for consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Bilingual in Spanish (written and spoken) strongly preferred.

Must be at least 23 years old with a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record per COA insurers, and insurance with liability limits of at least $50K bodily injury liability per person, $100K for bodily injury liability per occurrence, and $50K for property damage liability per occurrence. Must have access to reliable transportation for home visits.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

The physical requirements are the ability:

• Sit and stand for long periods
• Climb stairs
• Walk some distance
• Carry at least 25 pounds

The work environment is mainly an office and home environment with time spent in program buildings which can be loud. It also includes doing home visits at various sites around Milwaukee County in all sorts of weather.
