COMPENSATION:

Pay Rate: $26.00–$29.00 per hour

This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs.

In select cases, and depending on market conditions or exceptional candidate qualifications, compensation may exceed this range, provided it aligns with applicable law and our compensation policies.

SUMMARY:

Assists the Merchandising Manager and Distribution Manager in the placement of goods on the sales floor for the SDSU Bookstore and satellite operations (Imperial Valley Campus Bookstore, Athletic venues). Responsibilities include assisting with inventory control; floor moves that include product and fixture placement; and creating window displays. Assists in the management of part-time employees in the merchandising area.

• Assists in developing training workshops for employees on visual merchandise standards.

• Assists in the planning and execution of merchandise driven events.

• Assists in the supervision of part time employees in day to day operations including setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, coordinating sales training, and evaluating performance and disciplining of employees.

• Assists in planning, replenishment and rotation of merchandise for all categories with focus on apparel, gifts, and computers/electronics.

• Assists in planning and execution of major floor moves utilizing floor plans and working with Merchandising Manager and Distribution Manager.

• Attends selected sporting events to gain knowledge of customer demands.

• Works closely with Merchandising Manager, Distribution Manager, and General Merchandise department to plan for incoming merchandise and space allocation, including weekly walk-throughs for rotation/space planning.

• Assists with the stock replenishment program for all locations including athletic venues.

• Assists in the maintenance of the sign and fixture libraries.

• Partners with the Graphics and Marketing team to create window displays and signage.

• Assists in planning and implementing promotional efforts and communicating these efforts/plans to store personnel.

• Enforces compliance with security regulations and internal controls (i.e loss prevention and more).

• Ensures the merchandise area has the necessary supplies and materials to operate effectively.

• May perform the work of subordinates during busy periods.

• Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and University personnel.

• Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The minimum requirement for applicants is a Bachelor’s Degree in related field; plus 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Retail experience/knowledge preferred.

Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills are required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.

Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, governmental regulations, and technical/trade journals. Requires the ability to write reports and communicate effectively using telephonic, written, and electronic means. Requires the ability to effectively and respectfully present information one-on-one, small, and large group situations to customers, vendors, management and employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATIC SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and develop solutions/strategies. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information or instructions with several undefined and some concrete variables. Ability to interpret market needs and trends and act on information gathered. Requires good analytical, quantitative skills, organizational and management skills. 

 

MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Must be physically able to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machines, and facsimile machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects; key pad or papers, book and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral visions, distance vision, and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents.

 

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: 

Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds. 

 

WORK CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: 

Work is regularly performed in both a traditional office setting and open sales floor workspace. There may be exposure to airborne particles created from incoming boxes, merchandise and textbooks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5.

Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. This may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.

 

BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION:  

A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer of employment is extended by the company and accepted by the applicant and must be satisfactorily completed prior to any applicant beginning work in a full-time, part-time non-student, or sensitive student capacity with Aztec Shops Ltd.
