COTA-Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) The Banyan at Montclair is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our rehabilitation team. The COTA works under the direction of the Occupational Therapist to provide high-quality therapeutic services that help residents achieve their highest level of independence and quality of life. Position Responsibilities Provide hands‑on occupational therapy treatments as directed by the Occupational Therapist and according to each resident's individualized plan of care. Assist residents in preparing for and returning from therapy sessions. Assist residents with dressing, undressing, braces, prosthetics, crutches, and other supportive equipment as needed. Implement treatment plans and established therapy goals using appropriate COTA skills and techniques. Observe, assess, and report resident progress, concerns, and changes in condition to the Occupational Therapist. Educate and encourage residents and their families to maximize functional independence and carry over therapeutic activities. Accurately document treatments, resident progress, home programs, and other required documentation in a timely manner. Measure and monitor resident range of motion and functional progress. Record treatment data and communicate findings with the rehabilitation team. Maintain therapy equipment by cleaning, organizing, and preparing it for resident use. Maintain clean, organized, and safe treatment areas. Assist with administrative duties related to therapy services. Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident care. Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies. Participate in required in‑service training, continuing education, and professional development. Comply with all federal, state, local, and facility regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Professional Expectations Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and respect toward residents, families, visitors, and fellow team members. Maintain positive working relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Exercise sound judgment and promptly report resident concerns or safety issues. Adapt to changing resident needs and assist with cross‑functional duties when necessary to ensure quality resident care. Follow all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory guidelines. Qualifications Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license in the State of Nebraska. Current CPR certification (preferred or as required by facility policy). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Long‑term care or skilled nursing experience is preferred but not required. Attendance Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position. Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and sit for extended periods. Ability to assist residents with transfers and mobility activities. Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely operate therapy equipment and perform the physical requirements of resident care.
