About the Position

We are hiring an Assistant Director of Safety Technology to oversee the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of safety and security technology across multiple locations. This leadership role combines technical oversight, staff supervision, project management, and coordination with department leaders, technology teams, outside vendors, and law enforcement.

The ideal candidate has experience managing technology or security operations, leading staff, and delivering projects while supporting risk prevention and emergency preparedness.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned staff and provide clear direction, documentation, guidance, and training.
• Oversee the planning, rollout, testing, configuration, maintenance, and support of safety and security technology systems.
• Assist with managing safety technology applications, including customization, security, hosting, and ongoing support.
• Coordinate processes for assessing risks, preventing incidents, preparing for emergencies, and supporting response and recovery efforts.
• Manage project timelines, milestones, risks, and issues, and provide clear written and verbal updates to the people involved.
• Manage project budgets, staffing, resources, and external vendors.
• Work with technology leadership to develop short-term and long-term safety technology plans.
• Define and communicate project expectations, service level agreements, and resource needs.
• Serve as the main contact between technology teams and department leadership to coordinate project needs, decisions, and priorities.
• Work with consultants and vendors to bring new systems and applications into service.
• Prepare and review risk reports and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, plans, drills, and training.
• Partner with law enforcement agencies as needed to support safety technology projects and department goals.
• Coordinate safety, security, and emergency preparedness training for staff and department leaders.
• Help communicate safety and security programs so staff and other involved groups understand the technology, procedures, and expectations.
• Participate in assigned committees, professional training, and ongoing learning related to the position.
• Follow safety procedures, applicable laws, and workplace policies, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in criminal justice, organizational security management, cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, management information systems, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience related to the position within the past eight years , including at least three years in a supervisory role .
• Ability to complete technical work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to prepare thorough reports that are clear and easy to understand.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer skills needed to perform the responsibilities of the position.

Required Skills

• Ability to lead staff and coordinate work across multiple teams.
• Ability to manage technology projects, budgets, timelines, vendors, and competing priorities.
• Ability to identify risks, resolve problems, and recommend practical improvements.
• Ability to explain technical information to staff, department leaders, and other project participants.
• Ability to develop training materials, document procedures, and support staff using safety technology.

Knowledge of building construction, permitting, fire protection guidelines, including NFPA requirements, and wiring standards is beneficial. Employees who are not already familiar with the applicable state, local, and organizational standards must develop this knowledge within six months of starting .

Preferred Qualifications

• A master’s degree from an accredited institution in one of the fields listed above or a related field.
• One or more of the following professional certifications:
• • Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Associate Protection Professional (APP).
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP).
• Bilingual skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform light physical work.
• Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently or as needed to move objects.
