Job Description - HR Business Consultant View phone number on click.appcast.io) Job Summary Reporting to the Group Chief Human Resources Officer, the Sr. Human Resources Business Consultant (HRBC) serves as an advisor to selected departments within Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Detroit Receiving Hospital and Harper Hutzel Hospitals. The Sr HRBC provides strategic support and HR services in organizational design, development, change management, recruitment, training, employee relations, and labor relations. He/she establishes and maintains solid working relationships with all levels of management and staff and works with senior leadership to analyze, monitor, and address HR efforts related to improving the work environment of his/her customers strategically and proactively. The Sr HRBC drives or participates in projects and large‑scale initiatives to support the business unit(s) and the HR team across the system. Key Responsibilities Developing strategies, managing operations, responding to emergencies, and mediating conflicts. In conjunction with leaders, develop and implement an action plan to achieve overall HR strategy in department/division to drive organizational/system‑wide business results, linked to business strategy and focused on a high‑performance culture, including workforce planning and development, diversity and inclusion, engagement, leadership development, continuity and talent review, onboarding, orientation, retention, change management, and culture. Develop change‑management plans with leaders as needed and create a culture of ownership, diversity, respect, equity, and inclusion. Develop and evaluate overall trends/themes across departments/divisions to understand and address root causes. Manage complex employee‑relations cases that may include management, bargaining units, administrative and professional staff. Create new and update HR policies and practices as directed. Advise managers to facilitate problem solving, prepare job descriptions and maintain high customer satisfaction. Provide subject‑matter expertise, market knowledge, and knowledge of the operations of business partners. Participate in recruitment‑related events, partnerships, and strategies as needed. Consult with Employee & Labor Relations, General Counsel, and other functional departments to investigate and manage employee‑relations issues. Review ADA accommodation requests and conduct discussions with employees making requests. Demonstrate flexibility in applying different approaches to changing work demands. Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of customer organizations. Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of DMC. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in human resources (or related discipline) or equivalent combination of education and experience as a HR generalist, with active certification as PHR, SPHR or GPHR preferred; master’s in Human Resources or related field preferred. Five to seven years of progressively more responsible work experience in Human Resources and demonstrated knowledge in all areas of Human Resources, including working with senior leadership and project management. Previous experience in Labor Relations preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams products, including intermediate level knowledge of Excel.
