Director of Facility Management

$80k - $100k

The Kennedy Collective

Location & Travel Requirements: This position is based at The Kennedy Collective's headquarters in Trumbull, Connecticut, and requires frequent travel to organizational and contract locations throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania.

Position Summary

The Director of Facility Management is responsible for the performance, safety, compliance, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of The Kennedy Collective's administrative, day, residential, contract, and warehouse sites. The role provides leadership and oversight across facilities, the Janitorial Enterprise, landscaping, warehouse operations, capital planning, vendor management, preventive maintenance, life-safety, and regulatory readiness, including oversight of janitorial contract performance in partnership with the Janitorial Operations Manager. The Director ensures operations are safe, reliable, cost-effective, compliant, and positioned to meet organizational and contractual commitments across multiple states.

Reporting Structure

The Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and directly supervises 1-3 employees, including the Facilities Manager and Janitorial Operations Manager. The role leads a total operation of approximately 26-100 employees across Administration and Enterprise operations, providing leadership and oversight of facilities, janitorial, landscaping, warehouse, and contract operations. The Director works collaboratively with program leaders, customers, contracting partners, contractors, vendors, inspectors, and regulators to support operational performance, contract compliance, and service delivery.

Budget Authority

The Director manages assigned operating budgets, maintenance expenditures, janitorial, warehouse, and landscaping contracts and enterprise resources, vendor contracts, supplies, equipment, and capital improvement projects. The role monitors costs, recommends priorities, and exercises purchasing and staffing authority within approved organizational limits.

Essential Duties and Functions
  • Maintain accurate, timely, decision-ready financial, contract, workforce, and operational information.
  • Communicate material risks, missed commitments, compliance concerns, and corrective actions promptly to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Hold direct reports, including the Facilities Manager and Janitorial Operations Manager, accountable for performance, staffing, service quality, safety, contract compliance, and follow-through.
  • Maintain a consistent compliance posture across responsibility levels and assigned business operations.
  • Lead safe, reliable, and cost-effective facility operations across administrative offices, day sites, residential sites, contract sites, and warehouse operations.
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of the Janitorial Enterprise across assigned contract and organizational sites, working through the Janitorial Operations Manager to ensure effective staffing, scheduling, supplies, quality inspections, sanitation standards, customer requirements, safety, contractual compliance, and contract performance.
  • Develop and execute a multi-year capital improvement plan based on facility condition, life-safety priorities, operational risk, service needs, and available funding.
  • Build preventive maintenance and asset-management systems that extend equipment life, improve reliability, and reduce emergency repairs.
  • Own vendor and contractor selection, scopes of work, contract administration, service-level performance, and corrective action for facilities, janitorial and landscaping contracts and enterprise operations, warehouse operations, and grounds services.
  • Drive janitorial and landscaping quality, customer satisfaction, staffing, revenue growth, bottom-line profitability, and staffing decisions across assigned sites.
General Responsibilities
  • Support and uphold The Kennedy Collective's mission, values, policies, procedures, and standards of professional conduct.
  • Promote a respectful, person-centered environment that supports the dignity, rights, choice, independence, and well-being of the individuals we serve.
  • Maintain professional, respectful, and collaborative relationships with individuals served, families, coworkers, supervisors, other departments and programs, community partners, customers, and other stakeholders, and contribute to a positive, solutions-focused workplace.
  • Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal, health, employee, and organizational information.
  • Complete required orientation, training, certifications, and professional development within established timeframes, maintain required credentials, and participate in meetings, organizational initiatives, and quality-improvement activities.
  • Follow established health, safety, emergency, incident-reporting, and risk-management practices, and promptly communicate concerns, incidents, compliance issues, and safety risks through appropriate channels.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records, documentation, timekeeping, and other required information applicable to the position.
  • Demonstrate reliability and accountability by maintaining regular attendance, punctuality, and availability consistent with the requirements of the position.
  • Use organizational resources, equipment, technology, systems, and property responsibly and in accordance with established policies.
  • Provide support and coverage across programs, locations, shifts, and service settings as assigned, including residential, day, community-based, and other agency programs regardless of primary work assignment, and perform other duties reasonably related to the position based on organizational or operational needs.
Competencies
  • Strategic and Operational Leadership: Converts organizational priorities into clear plans, ownership, decisions, and measurable results across multiple service lines.
  • Financial and Business Acumen: Uses revenue, margin, budget, contract, workforce, and operating data to protect sustainability and guide resource allocation.
  • Partnership and Growth Development: Builds durable employer, customer, government, funder, and community relationships that create employment and revenue opportunities.
  • Leadership Accountability: Sets clear expectations, develops managers, addresses performance directly, and builds succession capacity across the operation.
