North American Oil Analyst
MNI
Position Title: North American Oil Analyst Department: Commodities Coverage Location: New York, NY | Denver, CO | Houston, TX (Hybrid/Onsite) Experience Level: Experienced Professional (5+ Years, Title commensurate with experience) Company Overview & Business Unit Summary MNI provides real-time macroeconomic and financial market intelligence delivered directly to the world's leading institutional trading desks, central banks, and investment firms. We are a team of analysts and former traders predominantly from the buyside and sellside providing high-frequency analysis of fixed income, foreign exchange, credit and commodities markets. MNI is seeking experienced, enthusiastic analysts to join its North American commodities business. This is a rare, entrepreneurial opportunity to help spearhead our US energy service. Backed by MNI's global infrastructure and a rapidly expanding client base—spanning upstream producers, major midstream operators, downstream refiners, commodity trading desks, hedge funds and global investment banks— our analysts provide key insights across the physical and financial energy ecosystem. The Opportunity As a North American Oil Analyst, you will be the definitive voice on North American crude oil markets and their critical role within the global energy landscape. We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter who is genuinely enthusiastic and passionate about physical oil markets—someone who is naturally motivated to build a service because they are deeply fascinated by infrastructure, logistics, and supply/demand pricing mechanics. While you will operate with a high degree of independence over your day-to-day coverage, you will be part of a highly collaborative team dynamic. Because North American barrels act as a marginal supply driver globally, your focus will be on tracking physical domestic fundamentals and translating how regional constraints, pipeline flows, and waterborne exports impact global balances and benchmarks. If you thrive on the excitement of live trading cycles, physical crude logistics, and infrastructure dynamics, then this role provides an exceptional opportunity. Key Responsibilities Deliver minute-by-minute, actionable insight on market-moving developments across US and Canadian regional crude markets (e.g., Permian, Bakken, DJ Basin, and Western Canada). Monitor and analyze physical crude grade pricing and differentials (e.g., WTI Midland, WCS, Mars) and how they drive waterborne export economics and international arbitrage. Actively monitor pipeline operations, scheduling constraints, storage hub dynamics (Cushing and Gulf Coast), refinery utilization/turnarounds, and marine export terminal operations. Synthesize domestic supply/demand balances with broader global dynamics, assessing how OPEC+ policy shifts and global geopolitical disruptions impact North American flows and pricing. Develop, manage, and leverage granular regional crude supply, demand, logistics, and inventory models. Actively participate in internal team knowledge-sharing sessions, leveraging your oil expertise alongside our macro and gas analysts to formulate cohesive, cross-commodity market perspectives. Engage directly with MNI's institutional client base, answering questions about market moves and providing context on market changes. Required Qualifications & Skills 5+ years of dedicated experience analyzing, trading, scheduling, or researching North American and global oil markets, with a strong focus on physical supply chains and pricing. Bachelor’s degree required; candidates must be highly numerate, analytically minded, and comfortable working with complex energy data sets. A proven capability to quickly interpret unexpected physical market anomalies (e.g., infrastructure outages, pricing blowouts, flow disruptions) and translate them into immediate, logical conclusions for market participants coupled with a self-motivated work ethic. Exceptional writing skills with a proven ability to lean on your deep industry experience to instantly distill complex physical market data, pipeline notices, and pricing points into sharp, clear, and actionable insights under tight, real-time deadlines. Deep familiarity with US and Canadian regional oil markets, physical grade differentials, pipeline networks (e.g., Enbridge, BridgeTex, Wink-to-Webster), Cushing storage mechanics, and US Gulf Coast export operations. A strong understanding of global macro crude fundamentals and how North American waterborne exports interact with international pricing. A strong desire to work in an environment where shared expertise is critical; the ability to work highly independently while seamlessly collaborating with other experienced market professionals to drive optimal research conclusions. Why Join MNI? You will have a major seat at the table in building out a premium commodities product, with high internal and external visibility. Collaborate with and work alongside seasoned energy professionals who hold significant, deep-rooted experience in the oil and gas markets. Direct, daily exposure to institutional clients across the entire energy value chain. Our physical office is currently based in NYC but offers remote/hybrid working option. Compensation and Benefits Competitive remuneration including annual discretionary bonus based on individual performance and company metrics. MNI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off (PTO), holiday pay, and flexible/remote work arrangements. MNI recognises the importance of work life balance. If this challenge appeals to you, please come talk to us. #J-18808-Ljbffr MNI
