SHOP TECHNICIAN

Shop TechnicianAssist in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of district vehicles, including school buses, to ensure safe and efficient operation. Support transportation mechanics by performing routine service tasks and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe bus barn/shop environment.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED requiredValid Texas driver's license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain)Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair (diesel and gasoline engines preferred)Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipmentKnowledge of preventative maintenance proceduresUnderstanding of shop safety practices and OSHA standardsAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsBasic record-keeping skillsExperience in vehicle maintenance or mechanical work preferredExperience working with heavy-duty vehicles or school buses preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Support:Assist mechanics with routine maintenance of buses and district vehicles (oil changes, filter replacement, tire service, lubrication, etc.)Perform basic repairs as directedInspect vehicles for visible defects and report issuesShop Operations:Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bus barn and shop areasClean tools, equipment, and workspaces after useAssist with moving and positioning vehicles in the yard/shopInventory and Equipment:Assist in maintaining inventory of parts, tools, and suppliesReceive and store parts and materialsMaintain tools and ensure proper storageSafety and Compliance:Follow all safety procedures and guidelinesAssist with ensuring vehicles meet state inspection and safety standardsProperly handle and dispose of hazardous materials (oil, fuel, etc.)Transportation Support:Assist with fueling buses and checking fluid levelsMay assist with road calls or emergency repairsSupport preparation of buses for routes and inspectionsOther Duties:Maintain confidentialityFollow district policies and proceduresPerform other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneWorking Conditions:Mental Demands: Ability to work with frequent interruptionsMaintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and liftingAbility to lift and carry 50+ poundsWork in indoor and outdoor environments in varying weather conditionsExposure to noise, grease, fumes, chemicals, and machineryMay work around moving vehicles and heavy equipment
