Charge Nurse - LPN or RN

Role Overview The Charge Nurse (LPN or RN) supervises the day-to-day nursing activities of the Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring the highest degree of quality care. Key Responsibilities Operations Management and Administration (70%) Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines. Make work assignments to Nursing Assistants and coordinate nursing services to ensure continuity of resident care. Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards of practice. Represent the nursing department during Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings and answer questions related to the plan of care. Participate in various committee meetings. Assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, improving care and services. Provide direct nursing care when needed and consult with physicians in planning resident care. Notify physicians and families of changes in resident condition. Authorize and monitor the use of restraints in accordance with facility policies. Admit, transfer, and discharge patients as necessary and work with the Unit Manager to reduce hospital readmissions. Attend all-employee and departmental meetings and in-service training as scheduled. Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management (20%) Ensure nursing procedures are followed by nursing staff and reflect facility standards. Participate in the maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program. Ensure proper administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies. Maintain cleanliness and safety of resident rooms, treatment areas, and equipment. People Management and Development (10%) Supervise CNAs and create a positive work environment. Interview, select, orient, and evaluate direct reports. Establish and promote performance expectations and provide developmental guidance. Document compliance with company policies and intervene when necessary. Participate in planning and delivering in-service training and orientation programs. Ensure staffing plans cover absences or vacancies. Respond promptly to staff inquiries and approvals. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Current unencumbered license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in Ohio. One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or related setting preferred. Supervisory experience in long-term care, hospital, or related health care setting preferred. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Working Conditions and Special Requirements Sitting – up to 4 hours/day; Standing – up to 8 hours/day; Walking – up to 6 hours/day;Lifting, transferring, pushing or pulling residents/patients or equipment/supplies – up to 50 pounds;Driving – up to 6 hours/day; Travel – occasional; Work weekends, evenings, and holidays – as needed;On-call availability – 24/7 for emergencies.
