In 1921, he made Avalon the Spring Training home of his beloved Chicago Cub's, building the Catalina Country Club to house the team's lockers and provide a gathering place for players. In 1929, Wrigley built the iconic Catalina Casino, which boasts the world's largest circular ballroom and the first theatre designed and built to show talking motion pictures. During World War II, the island served as a military training facility and was closed to tourists. The island was a popular spot with Hollywood's elite during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. It also became a popular location for production companies to shoot movies. More than 500 films, documentaries, commercials, and TV shows have been shot in and around Catalina over the years, especially in Two Harbors on the island's west end. Join a team that is as vibrant, dynamic, and unique as the island itself!As a Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of hotels, restaurants, residential and commercial properties. This role performs routine maintenance, preventative repairs, and emergency fixes across mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general building systems to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment for guests and employees.Job duties include, but are not limited to:Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipmentTroubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and mechanical issuesRespond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair needsConduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and groundsMaintain hotel rooms, restaurant spaces, kitchens, restrooms, and common areasRepair walls, doors, floors, ceilings, fixtures, furniture, and appliancesPerform basic carpentry, painting, patching, and tile repairsAssist with equipment installation and vendor coordination as neededMaintain accurate maintenance logs and service recordsEnsure compliance with safety regulations, health codes, and company policiesProperly use and maintain tools, equipment, and suppliesSupport property cleanliness, curb appeal, and overall presentationAssembles, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of heating, electrical, and air conditioning equipment; replaces filters; identifies and reports more complex maintenance needs to supervisor.Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.Maintains records and logs of daily activities.Other duties as assignedQualifications2+ years of facilities or property maintenance experienceTrade certifications or technical training a plus but not requiredWorking knowledge of building maintenance systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical)Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficientlyStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and work independentlyExcellent communication and customer service skillsBasic computer or work-order system knowledgeMethods and techniques used in the operation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.Operational characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.Drivers LicensesA valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record that is maintained throughout employment.Position Type: Full TimeHousingThe Catalina Island Company offers shared housing as an option for eligible employees at a subsidized rate. Employees are responsible for paying a portion of the housing cost, typically deducted through payroll.Accommodation generally includes shared bedrooms, shared bathrooms and a community kitchen. Housing is subject to availability and cost will vary based on location.Pay TransparencyThe pay scale for this position ranges between $24.00-$30.00 per hour depending on the work experience level. The pay is the hourly rate.The total compensation package is determined by work experience and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience and education or training.Work Environment/ Physical RequirementsThis position primarily takes place outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, wind, and occasional rain. The position will require lifting, operating tools or vehicles.Must be comfortable and able to stand for up to 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Requires dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
