5th Grade Teacher - 1 Year Only Job Summary: As a classroom teacher, the successful candidate will provide support and guidance to students through their critical transition into the middle school environment; deliver standards-based instruction designed to meet the distinct intellectual, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents; foster a supportive, growth-oriented classroom that inspires all students to become lifelong learners and responsible, productive citizens. Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction tailored to the academic and developmental needs of 5th-grade students. Provide instruction on pre-approved curriculum in the content area. Integrates soft-skill instruction into competency-based content area activities. Utilize diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student progress, guide instructional decisions, and personalize learning as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework Embed literacy, mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and social studies concepts across the curriculum. Collaborate with other core content teachers and interventionists on common course planning, Utilize educational technology tools (e.g., Clever, PowerSchool) to enhance student engagement and maintain accurate records. Foster a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and culturally responsive classroom environment grounded in mutual respect. Implement positive behavioral support strategies aligned with school-wide policies and anti-bullying guidelines. Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, including English Language Learners (ELLs), students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and/or 504 plans. Participate actively in grade-level team meetings, MTSS, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and School Improvement Team initiatives. Adheres to the requirements and standards of the Rhode Island Department of Education Educator Evaluation process. Maintain regular, transparent, and proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding academic progress and behavioral growth. Performs related work as assigned. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in teaching preferred. Strong understanding of elementary curriculum frameworks, child development, and upper-elementary/middle-grades pedagogy. Excellent interpersonal, classroom management, and communication skills. Education: Bachelor degree required. Certification & Licensing: Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and/or certifications. Westerly Middle School
