Overview Human Resources Manager – Georgetown Manor, Inc. (An Authorized Ethan Allen Independent Retailer) Location: Houston, Texas (Corporate Office/Warehouse/Service Center) Reports to: CFO and COO Direct Reports: HR Generalist Company Size: 85 Associates Business Overview: Locally owned and operated in Texas since 1968, with seven Ethan Allen Design Centers across Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Position Summary The Human Resources Manager is the primary leader and hands-on practitioner for all human resources functions at Georgetown Manor, Inc. This role oversees HR operations across seven retail design centers and the Houston corporate office/warehouse/service center. The HR Manager ensures compliance, drives HR process excellence, and supports a positive, productive workplace culture. A key priority for this role is modernizing and improving the daily HR flow of work. The ideal candidate will bring fresh thinking, operational discipline, and a continuous-improvement mindset to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and elevate the employee experience. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who is comfortable functioning as both a strategic partner and a working manager. Key Responsibilities HR Modernization & Process Improvement Evaluate current HR workflows, policies, and systems to identify opportunities for modernization and efficiency. Implement updated processes, tools, and best practices to improve accuracy, speed, and employee satisfaction. Strengthen HR data integrity, reporting, and analytics to support better decision-making. Introduce or refine digital tools, templates, and automated workflows to reduce manual work and improve consistency. Champion a culture of continuous improvement within the HR function. Payroll & HRIS Management Manage company payroll and timekeeping through Paychex, ensuring accuracy and timely processing. Maintain complete and compliant employee records within Paychex HRIS. Optimize use of Paychex features to streamline HR administration and reporting. Oversee timekeeping practices and resolve discrepancies. Benefits Administration Administer all employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, AFLAC, and 401(k). Lead annual open enrollment meetings and provide employee support throughout the process. Manage the annual medical benefits renewal process with a focus on cost control and benefit optimization. Serve as the primary liaison with benefit brokers and vendors. Employee Relations & Compliance Act as the point person for all personnel matters, including performance issues, corrective actions, and policy interpretation. Manage workers’ compensation claims, EEOC claims, and unemployment claims. Ensure compliance with all federal and state reporting and local labor laws. Maintain and update the company Employee Handbook to reflect current policies and legal requirements. Oversee company-wide safety programs and ensure adherence to safety standards at all locations. Recruitment, Pre-Employment & Onboarding Lead full-cycle recruiting for all positions across retail, warehouse, design, and corporate functions. Utilize recruiting platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, and others to source qualified candidates. Oversee the pre-employment process, including background checks, reference checks, offer letters, and required documentation. Manage and continuously improve the new-hire onboarding experience, ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and compliant introduction to the company. Partner with hiring managers to ensure consistent onboarding practices across all locations. Modernize recruiting and onboarding workflows to improve speed, candidate experience, and hiring outcomes. Supervise and mentor the HR Generalist, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Partner closely with the CFO, COO, and department leaders to support organizational goals. Serve as a trusted advisor on HR best practices, employee engagement, and organizational culture. Demonstrate a hands-on, approachable leadership style consistent with a locally owned business environment. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field preferred. 5–8+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a multi-location environment. Experience with Paychex or similar HRIS/payroll systems strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience modernizing HR processes or implementing improved HR workflows is highly valued. Certifications (Preferred) Technical Skills Technical Skills Proficiency with HRIS systems, payroll platforms, and talent acquisition software. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to evaluate and implement new HR tools, systems, and process enhancements. Core Competencies Strong understanding of employment law and HR compliance. Expertise in recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, compensation basics, and talent management. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage conflict, maintain confidentiality, and build trust across all levels. Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities.
