The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology. The RN participates in the management of financial and human resources within the institution's philosophy. Responsibilities include performing duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission. The RN develops appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards. Plans of care are based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety. The RN reports and/or corrects safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others is essential to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. Identifying personal learning needs is important for professional growth. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Procedures and theories specific to emergency department nursing are implemented. Patient assessments and care plans are developed in collaboration with providers, family, and patient. The RN executes the plan of care and nursing interventions. Care plans are modified based on continuous assessment. The RN is responsible for patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions. Adherence to safety standards is critical, as is correcting or reporting safety hazards. Effective collaboration with staff, visitors, and families promotes a healthy work environment. Accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation are maintained.
