Cultural Facilities Manager for West Virginia Independence Hall Position Description Job Title: Cultural Facilities Manager for West Virginia Independence Hall Agency: West Virginia State Museum Department: West Virginia Department of Tourism Reports To: Director, West Virginia State Museum Pay Range: Dependent on experience, includes state benefit package Typical range for Cultural Facilities Manager starts at $43,357 Work Location: Wheeling, WV The successful candidate for the Cultural Facilities Manager position will be enthusiastic and organized, with strong leadership skills and attention to detail. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations at West Virginia Independence Hall and supervising all employees working at the site. The successful candidate should be a good communicator who maintains strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, researchers, and community partners, and who strives for excellence in managing all aspects of facility operations, including maintaining the building and grounds to a high standard. About West Virginia Independence Hall Originally built in 1859 in Wheeling, WV, the Wheeling Custom House is considered to be the "Birthplace of West Virginia." The 22,000 square foot building, now appropriately renamed West Virginia Independence Hall, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1988. The building is now a museum and visitors center. Duties and Responsibilities Inspects the condition of the facility Arranges for repairs or modifications as necessary Oversees all events and programming at the facility Supervises volunteers and full-time or seasonal staff Reports to the Director of the State Museum to obtain approval for projects Coordinates purchasing for items and services needed at the site Reports site data, such as visitation and other metrics, to the Director of the State Museum Represents the facility at meetings and events Works closely with the Tourism Marketing team on promotional materials for events at the facility Prepares and writes justification for facility budget Monitors spending within the site's budget Implements all policies and procedures as required Conducts tours of the facility Works with Retail Manager on presentation and contents of gift shop Responsible for State Purchasing Card for site Other duties as assigned Desired Skills Demonstrated ability to lead staff, volunteers, and other groups Excellent customer service skills Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions Proficiency in analyzing complex information and developing plans to address identified issues Excellent time management and organizational skills Knowledge of or proficiency for learning about building and grounds maintenance-related matters Knowledge of or proficiency for learning about museum best practices Position Details This position is located in Wheeling, West Virginia, and requires a full-time work schedule during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, to align with visitor hours. Some weekend and evening work is required. Remote work is not permitted. Limited travel is required. This job opportunity is not a Civil Service position and is not covered under the Administrative Rule of the WV Division of Personnel.
