Federal Criminal Justice Policy Intern (Volunteer)

Law Student Volunteer, Academic Year, Office of Policy and Legislation Location: Washington, DC – United States About the Office The Office of Policy and Legislation (OPL) seeks to ensure that the Criminal Division has the statutory and policy tools that it needs to keep our country safe. We are a small team of attorneys, data scientists and analysts, and professional staff that works with all the sections and offices of the Criminal Division, and components around the Department, to develop, review, and evaluate all areas of national criminal justice, sentencing, and corrections policy and legislation. Job Description OPL's Legal Interns work under the guidance and supervision of the office's Director and a Senior Counsel, but work mostly independently. They conduct complex legal policy and legislative analyses, explore legal policy and legislative options, and draft recommendations for action. Qualifications Law student with interest in federal criminal law and policymaking. Strong legal and policy research, writing, and analytical skills. Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently. Able to quickly develop special expertise in a particular area. OPL will consider rising 2L/3Ls for Summer semesters and 2nd/3rd year students for Spring and Fall semesters.
