Surveillance Program Manager
The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.
Lead Louisiana's statewide STI, HIV, and Viral Hepatitis Surveillance Program and make a lasting impact on public health. This high-impact management role oversees critical surveillance, data analysis, outbreak monitoring, and reporting activities that inform prevention strategies, healthcare planning, and policy decisions across the state. Leading a team responsible for tracking hundreds of thousands of laboratory reports and thousands of disease cases annually, you'll collaborate with healthcare providers, public health partners, and national stakeholders to drive data-informed action, protect communities, and strengthen Louisiana's public health infrastructure.
In the event of a disaster or emergency in the State of Louisiana, you may be required to assist at a Special Needs Shelter (SNS), the Emergency Operation Command Center (POC), or other location where you are needed. The location may be outside of your normal work domicile and the duties may be outside of your normal work assignment.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, nursing, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences plus four years of experience in epidemiology; OR A doctorate degree in epidemiology plus two years of experience in epidemiology.

Job Duties and Other Information:
- Direct and oversee statewide STI, HIV, and Viral Hepatitis surveillance operations, ensuring the collection, analysis, quality, security, and reporting of public health data.
- Lead and supervise a multidisciplinary surveillance team, including supervisors, epidemiologists, data analysts, investigators, case managers, and support staff, to achieve program goals and performance objectives.
- Manage complex surveillance databases and information systems, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, efficient operations, and compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
- Oversee the development, review, analysis, and dissemination of surveillance reports, publications, fact sheets, and epidemiological data used for public health planning, evaluation, and decision-making.
- Develop grant proposals, administer state and federal funding resources, monitor budgets, and ensure compliance with grant requirements and program objectives.
- Collaborate with public health leadership, healthcare partners, community organizations, and national professional groups to develop policies, strengthen surveillance systems, and coordinate responses to STI, HIV, and Viral Hepatitis trends.
- Represent the surveillance program by presenting epidemiological findings to stakeholders, policymakers, community groups, and professional organizations, and support emergency response activities during public health emergencies and disasters.
