43 North Broadway Avenue Sylacauga, AL 35150 View phone number on click.appcast.io SYLACAUGA CITY SCHOOLS Job Description JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal REPORTS TO: Principal OBJECTIVE: To serve as the assistant instructional and administrative leader of the school by working with staff, students, parents, and community under the direction of the principal. To work to establish a high quality educational environment that accomplishes the school's mission. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Ability to meet any applicable certification requirements under state law for the position within the timelines as established by the State Department of Education.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment under Alabama law (i.e. Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457).
- Ability to plan and organize effectively.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate the work of others.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to provide own transportation to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Possession of valid driver's license.
- Ability to use current technology to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
- Works closely with the Principal and staff members to ensure the smooth overall operation of the school.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment for students and staff.
- Oversees assigned responsibilities within the school, which may include, but be not be limited to, student discipline, scheduling, personnel management, instructional and/or extracurricular activities, handling logistical matters, and/or professional development activities.
- Assists the principal with personnel matters.
- Assists with efforts to improve student attendance.
- Works with principal and office staff to maintain records of all truancy and attendance cases.
- Assists Superintendent or designee with filing petitions and attends court hearings for attendance (truancy) and discipline problems as needed.
- Assists with scheduling and assigning students for instruction.
- Assists with extra-curricular activities at the level assigned.
- Attends meetings, trainings, seminars, and workshops as required.
- Attends and assists with supervision of school system activities, events, ceremonies, and conferences as needed.
- Assists with the supervision of classroom instruction.
- Assists with the distribution and accounting of textbooks and supplies.
- Assists with the evaluation of staff members.
- Communicates effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Assumes overall responsibility for the school when the principal is absent.
- Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
- Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
- Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
