Clinical Dietitian Profession

Clinical Dietitian Specialty: Pediatric Support Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Experience: Two or more years of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian, including at least one year in a specialty area. Pediatric experience is required. ICU and Nutrition Support experience preferred. License: Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) Certifications: Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist (LDN) in Maryland Must-Have: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of food science, biochemistry, physiology, management science, behavioral science, and social science as applied to human nutrition and metabolism. Ability to collect information from diverse sources and apply professional principles in performing analyses. Substantial interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team. Ability to counsel and educate patients and teach students. Communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific responses to assessment. Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.

Work requires the analytical skills to assess patient conditions, plan suitable diets, and evaluate responses. Ability to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs is necessary. Substantial interpersonal skills are required for effective communication with patients, families, providers, and other health care professionals. The ability to provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations is important. Candidates must be able to assist in the supervision of support staff and students. Strong communication skills are necessary to interpret age-specific responses to assessment and treatment. Ability to use a computer keyboard for data input and retrieval is required.
